Today is the feast day of Saint Gregory Barbarigo. Gregory was born at Venice, Italy, in 1625 to a very old and distinguished Venetian family. Gregory was taught by his father, who was a senator, as a young boy, and then went on to study law at Padua. After his studies, Gregory became a diplomat. In 1648, he accompanied the Venetian ambassador to the Peace of Westphalia, which took place in Münster, Germany. Shortly after this event, Gregory became a priest. In 1656, Pope Alexander VII called Gregory to Rome to assist the sick during the plague. Go here to read the rest.
