Why is this not a surprise…

Neoliberalism is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish from early-stage fascism. When you throw in the Army outsourcing spying to a private company to avoid that pesky Constitution, the resonances grow stronger.

I wonder when the military will stop bothering to swear to uphold the Constitution?

I’m not surprised that there are politicians who are willing to stoop to any low in order to get ahead, but it’s deeply disturbing that there are no adults amongst the Democrats, calling their peers out. Where is a Democrat who sees beyond mere political expediency and views the bigger picture?

Likewise, I don’t recall ever hearing a Democrat criticize the left’s embrace of the political violence and thuggery of antifa and BLM. They are mainstreaming rioting and terrorism as a ‘legitimate’ means to their political ends.

Where is a Democrat who sees beyond mere political expediency and views the bigger picture?

Her name is Tulsi Gabbard and she’s left Congress.

Since partisan Democrats are a common as dirt in our families and since the Republicans in our social circle use Fakebook to post pictures of their grandchildren, we’re exposed to the viewpoint and idiom of partisan Democrats quite a bit. The next time I see an utterance by a partisan Democrat which isn’t utter bollocks will be the first time in a half-dozen years. I have a Bernie Bro cousin in Alliance Ohio who is at least unpredictable. That’s as good as it gets.

Art, I watched an interview with then-Congresswoman Gabbard on David Rubin’s YouTube show, and I agree with you— she came across as a serious person, an actual adult. Mind you, I disagree with her on several important issues, but it was startling to hear her come out against her party’s open borders policy— just one of several ways she publicly disagreed with the Democrat party line.

I don’t doubt that it was just that maturity and independence on her part that made her unacceptable to her party’s bosses as a presidential candidate, and cut short the political career of someone who, on paper at least, checked all the right boxes and should have gone far in DC.

The Democrats don’t want any Tulsi Gabbards. They want more AOCs and the rest of the Squad, more Schiffs, more Nadlers.

Sadly for our nation, it’s those sort who are the future of the Democrat Party. There’s no future for any grownup like Gabbard there.

Mike Gabbard, Tulsi’s dad, is a practicing, traditional Catholic. He ran in several races in Hawaii as Republican. In 2007 he switched to the Democratic Party. Not because he had changed his principles but, my guess, becoming a Democrat made him more electable in heavily Democratic Hawaii.
.In the future it would be no surprise if Tulsi declared herself an
independent and voted with the Republicans, or became a Republican. Listening to her she is sounding somewhat pro-life. Hillary Clinton verbally went after Gabbard with a veiled accusation that Gabarf was being groomed by the Russians to be a spy. Tulsi’s response, “You, the queen of warmongers, embodiment of corruption, and personification of the rot that has sickened the Democratic Party for so long, have finally come out from behind the curtain.”
