I doubt you’ll find that at most “Jesus Rock” denominations-at least I’ve never seen it at the one I sometimes attend. I can’t picture any of the men in the band jumping around clapping like that. Frankly, that’s embarrassing.

Unfortunately, complaints will likely be met with a reference to 2 Samuel 6: 14-22. I’m not justifying it; it’s a liturgical abuse of the highest order. But the Vatican opened the proverbial can of worms when it tried to make things new. Pandora learned this lesson, some others in birettas, mitres and tiaras…not so much.

One of my daughters attended Franciscan University Steubenville and became a semi-permant director of the anjual passion play there. On one occasion a female student provided an impassioned request for liturgical dancing during the passion play. The daughter was able to avoid it all by saying that the approval of the bishop the diocese would need to approve.
