I am not much of a baseball fan, but I have always remembered Cubs center fielder Rick Monday saving the flag from two loons who sought to burn it on the field during a game on April 25, 1976 between the Cubs and the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Field. When Monday came to bat the next time in the game he received a standing ovation from the crowd. The Dodgers went on to win the game 5-4 in ten innings, but Rick Monday, nonetheless, went home a winner.
A great reminder for all of US.

A friend named John Hitt and I were going to a Legion of Mary meeting south of our town fifty miles or so.
About half way to our destination John yelled at me to stop and pull the car over.
I did.
He spied a broken down flagpole with Our Flag half in shreds and sitting under a snowbank. Just a few pieces were coming up through the snow and John spotted it.
We went to the house with tattered flag in hand. Rang the bell. No answer.
We left a heartfelt note tucked inside the properly folded flag.
Our names and phone numbers were on the note. “If you are unable to purchase a new flag and pole please let us know. We will be honored to replace yours.”
God bless America and especially our Veterans.
Good luck with that today. Now the Dodgers give us the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
The American Flag belongs to all people in all generations in joint and common tenancy. Those who in hatred burn our Flag need to be deported.
