PopeWatch: Jesuit Handwaving

Contemporary Jesuits have cornered the market on intellectual dishonesty.  From America’s, the Jesuit rag not the nation, podcast:

But how closely did Pope Francis examine the document? This week on “Inside the Vatican,” America’s Rome correspondent Gerard O’Connell reveals that the document was drafted by a smaller group of people than would ordinarily be involved in writing this type of statement and that Pope Francis reviewed it just before his Iraq trip.

While it is unclear how much attention Pope Francis gave the document, Gerry says that it is significant that the document said the pope was “informed” and “assented to its publication,” a more hesitant phrasing than “approved” and “ordered its publication,” the terms the Vatican normally uses.

On this week’s show, Julia Erdlen, a Boston College graduate student in theology who identifies as queer, shares her reaction to the new document on blessing gay unions.

Go here to look at the rest if you must.  PopeWatch must give the Jesuits an A for honesty however.  Only the dimmest of the dim could not conclude that the contemporary Jesuit order, with a few honorable exceptions, are as Leftist as they are heterodox.  Once upon a time the Jesuits converted the rich and powerful to the doctrines of the Church.  Now they seek to convert the doctrines of the Church to what the rich and powerful chattering classes of the West desire.  Judas was a faithful follower of Christ in comparison to these apostate sons of Saint Ignatius Loyola.

In the past Jesuits adapted to pagan culture to convert it Christianity. Now they are adept at converting Christianity to paganism.

They’re Jesuits, not Catholic. They tried to teach me that truth is in the gray. I quickly figured out they don’t actually believe that. They simply believe their own truths which are very black and white for them.

This reminds me of the Parable of the Dishonest Manager. Where worldly clergy write off peoples’ sins to ingratiate themselves with the world.

You know I’m always the optimist. About the Jesuits, the only thing I can say is that the good ones are great. if the good ones ever got to critical mass at some university or somewhere, there would be a flowering of the Church. The good ones are left to do their thing, which is nice, but…I’m running out of optimistic things to say.

My years at BC did nothing to strengthen my Catholic Faith. But the theology classes were amusing observing the Jesuit gymnastic method of explaining that everything is everything. The SOJ clearly has its own religion and they know it.

The entire order needs to be suppressed again. The good ones will be welcomed elsewhere.

Pinky, I’m an optimist too. My glass is always 1/4 full…

Frank is correct. The suppression should never have been lifted. The few good ones remaining will surely find a place in a truly Catholic community.

What a miracle the anticipated illumination of conscience would be!
Semantics will be of no use under the Light.

Given that his Holiness has come out in favor of civil unions for same gender couples, it is not surprising he felt a need to clarify the distinction between the civil and the religious. The Jesuits are perhaps taking the longer view as the church continues to evolve.
