An old legend has it than when Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden all the animals turned their backs on them, with the exception of the dogs. The dogs trotted off into the wilderness with them.
Dogs usually deal with blindness much better than humans. Their sense of smell is so keen, and so important in giving dogs awareness as to where they are, that it is their major sense. Also, dogs simply do not obsess as we tend to do about things they have no control over.
Adorable dog – but what’s the mood of the room towards spending thousands of dollars on pet surgeries?
I know were are told to have a childlike faith, but I have always striven to have a doglike faith. Ignorant perhaps in the ways and plans of my Master, but devoted and loving regardless.
Alas, I’m still working my way to childlike.

I had never heard that legend before but I would be inclined to think there’s an element of truth in it. St. John Bosco’s angel chose to appear as a large grey dog in order to protect him.
Ben, that is a great link. Thank you for sharing.
Pinky, I wouldn’t spend $$$ on pet surgeries. My opinion.
Love that comic at that link, Ben. It reminds me of one of my favorite Calvin & Hobbes strips.

It’s none of your bloody business what I’m willing to spend on veterinary care.

There is a article over at Catholic World Report regarding Americans and their pets. It is rather polarizing.

What people often forget is that some human medical procedures where first done an animals. Yes, animal experimentation, but I also assume by some vet trying to save someone’s beloved Fido–and then writing up a journal article.
.
Why should anyone care whether Mr. Jones down the street spends $5,000 on cancer treatment for Fluffy? That cancer treatment supports someone’s livelihood, probably several livelihoods. If done at a major vet hospital, the chemo could be an up and coming drug.
.
Very unlikely I would spend several thousand of anyone’s money on cancer treatment for my cat. I have spent a couple of thousand, though, on an acute injury. A relative has done likewise. Her pets provide much needed companionship in these wicked times and keep her sober.
.
Money well spent.
