Donald R. McClarey
Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 43 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.
Long overdue, for reasons we likely will never learn in this world. Ecclesial politics of some sort, no doubt.
Seriously thinking of attending, I’m awaiting how much it would cost, think I can get someone there to house me for free. Expecting Church liberals to go gunning for Archbishop Sheen now that it’s official. I can hear it now: he’s too conservative, out of date, no one but crazy trads listen to him, and heaven forbid, at all costs! do not read what he wrote about liberalism and communism, you might have to change your mind if you do.
Praise the Lord. I used to listen to his radio broadcasts in the late 1950’s when I was with the Redemptorists testing a vocation. Certainly one of the world’s greatest bishops from the 20th. century.
Finally!!!
I’m gonna share the heck out of his quotes on communism.
I also benefited greatly from his Life is Worth Living series.
A lot of folks on Facebook yesterday were asking, why is the beatification Mass in St Louis? Because the Peoria Diocese – where he was born and raised, where he was ordained a priest, and which was in charge of his sainthood cause – doesn’t have an indoor venue big enough to accommodate the expected crowds. The Dome at America’s Center in St Louis, which has 82,000 seats and hosted a papal Mass with JPII in 1999, is the closest venue that can.
Good point Elaine, but I think the crowds are going to be overwhelming no matter where is is held.
