I have no clue why DJT is making an issue of Greenland. I wish he’d stop it and stop the babble about annexing parts of Canada.
I agree with Art Deco. The President should stop talking about annexation of Greenland or parts of Canada. If Greenland is a strategic area of defense for the United States, then the President should make some kind of deal with Denmark to install more military installations there, including possibly a strategic airbase (if one doesn’t already exist), more radar monitoring installations, and a nuclear submarine base. In this way he could show some continued support to NATO in order to appease our European allies, and at the same time achieve the end that he states he desires. While I have no love for the liberal progressive socialist governments of Western Europe, equally, Putin’s Russia (regardless of the weakness of its conventional forces in Ukraine) continues to remain a danger with its Poseiden-6 nuclear powered, nuclear armed torpedo and its Burevestnik nuclear powered, nuclear armed missile. We have nothing like them in the Western arsenal, and those devices cannot be defended against. Yes, while maintenance is a continued headache, Russian submarines are world-class vessels of destruction. BTW, maintenance of US submarines is a continued headache too.
Mr. President, make a deal with Denmark that they can’t refuse because they’ll really want the deal! You’re good at that!
I think that Trump has done enough to establish his bona-fides that he means what he says and that he should just shut up at this point. I thought that Marco was a chihuahua when he was appointed, but he is clearly a pitbull. Let him and Vance speak. They’re more measured but still strong.
I heard on NPR that Denmark just upped their artic defense spending in an effort to show that they can handle owning Greenland.
Maybe this was all Trump ever wanted in the first place…
Spending resources defending the coastline of Denmark’s colony doesn’t sound very “America First” to me. Denmark contributes less than 1% of what we do to NATO’s defense. Europe should consider Greenland back pay.
I’m finding the news so depressing, with the anger, violence and the lying from news and political sources, that this week I deleted all my news and commentary apps. Maybe I’ll find a source for a once-a-week recap, but I have to admit, I have zero trust in the news I read.
