Ok… ok… & now three occasions in 24 hours I’ve been Asked to learn Latin.

LORD you know how hard it is for me to learn any language.
Yes. And I KNOW you’re searching for a more powerful Weapon.

Yes.

Not related to this post. Apparently my comments go to moderation only on home WiFi. On 5G LTE or on someone else’s WiFi, my comments are not moderated. I have had similar problems when using home WiFi on my work computer for Neutrons ‘R Us. So have coworkers who live in my area and use the same ISP company. Thus, we have to connect our work computers to our ISP modems via ethernet. Well, I am glad to have figured out that problem! Thank you, Lord Jesus! Time to row my 8 kilometers! God is always good. PS, I love the Ave Maria prayer.

Just learned that:

“With immediate effect, Latin is no longer the favoured official language in the Vatican. This is the result of the new set of rules for the Roman Curia published this week and approved by Pope Leo XIV. “

Have always understood that Latin, being a dead language and not subject to change, was a firm footing for Teaching, so as not to be misconstrued either now or over time.

Don’t want to be cynical, but isn’t that now obvious?

I took a course in conversational Latin at the University of Michigan when I was still in high school. Wasn’t until many years later until I realized that the only place Latin was conversationally spoken was the Vatican. So I guess it won’t be conversationally spoken there either. And like many things it’s use it or lose it. They might not want to go down that path. The demons still speak it.

Some in the Vatican are like a toddler throwing dirt on a sunbeam trying to dim a light they find uncomfortable.

You can’t.

You can’t get at the sun to put it out either – the “best” you can do is block the light so you can live in the shadows. But even those who live in the shadows know, deep down, that the light is still there.

I learned the Ave Maria, the Pater Noster and the Glory Be in Latin. It’s not too hard

“I learned the Ave Maria, the Pater Noster and the Glory Be in Latin. It’s not too hard”

I have Ave Maria and Gloria Patri down pat — primarily from all the different versions of Schubert’s Ave Maria that I’ve listened to, and from the Sing the Hours You Tube channel, which uses the Latin Gloria Patri most of the time. The Pater Noster I have down through “Panem quotidianum da nobis hodie” but I am still getting stuck on the “forgive us our tresspasses….” part (et dimitte nobis debita nostra, sicut et nos dimmitibus debitoribus nostris)

The You Tube channel of the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in La Crosse, Wisconsin, has videos of Cardinal Raymond Burke praying the Rosary entirely in Latin, including the Apostles’ Creed, the Fatima Prayer, the Salve Regina, the “O God, whose only begotten Son by his life, death and resurrection…” prayer, and the announcement of each mystery and the fruit/virtue associated with it. I find them helpful for learning the Latin versions of each prayer but I would probably learn quicker if they had printed subtitles in Latin, which they don’t.
