From the Pen of Sister Calamus

Dear Diary,

I have been neglecting you, but I have been busy helping redesign the new website for Pope Leo.  It is a pleasure working for a man who does not view rotary phones as the be all and end all when it comes to technology.  Our new Pope is very sharp and seems to know a lot about everything, although his Yankee accent does take a while to get used to.  I am hearing complaints from some people who seem to have been working at the Vatican since Emperor Nero burned the city, which I take as a good sign.  As long as he does not mandate Chicago Deep Dish as the only pizza that can be served at the Vatican cafeteria, I think the future may be bright!

Sister Calamus is likely going to be very pleased with this Pontificate. Recently Pope Leo XIV’s Twitter / X feed had the following statement:

Tanto magis idonei non sumus Evangelio nuntiando quanto magia ab eo capimur et convertimur, concedentes potestati Spiritus, ut purget interiorem hominem, simplices efficiat verba nostra, honesta et limpida desideria, misericordes actus.

The first part when translated means this:

We are all the more unfit to proclaim the Gospel, the more we are magically captivated and converted by it…….

I responded thusly:

Gratia Dei (non magica) est impetus ad conversionem.

Magically captivated by it! Really? The grace of God is magic? You know, words do mean everything. After 12 years of heterodoxy by Pope Francis, I don’t trust this man one iota. Everything he says and everything he does will be scrutinized. And he cannot stop criticism in the public forum because of such stupid statements.

I expect many Pre-V2 documents will no longer be accessible.

Hard copies, folks, of anything you really need.
So easily accessible only works until they turn it off – or surreptitiously change it!

LQC:
Tanto magis/quanto magia is a sort of punning construction St. Augustine and some of the Fathers of his age liked, a hangover from their times as professors of rhetoric. We don’t have to appreciate them, of course.
