Sounds of Silence

Something for the weekend.  Sound of Silence (1964) by Simon and Garfunkel.  I have always enjoyed the song even though the lyrics make the mistake of confusing obscurity with profundity, a common failing for the abortive American folk music movement of the Sixties.

One of the first LPs (remember those?) I bought. Wore it out.I was an obscurely profound, yet frequently shallow, 13-year-old.I remember some of my poetry. But. In charity, shall spare you. Particularly, “The Toad Goddess”.

Am I the only one who really wants to hear The Toad Goddess now?

‘Intrigued’ isn’t a strong enough word 😀

Speaking of that era, I saw something recently about how Creedence Clearwater Revival never had a #1 hit. It had something to do with how they categorized #1’s, and the way the band would release huge A and B sides. Among their singles:

A: Suzie Q / B: I Put a Spell on You
A: Proud Mary / B: Born on the Bayou
A: Down on the Corner / B: Fortunate Son
A: Travelin’ Band / B: Who’ll Stop the Rain
