When I saw the news story my mind immediately went to it being deliberate “accident”….I hope I’m wrong .

Despicable CNN attempted last night to lay blame on Trump’s dismissal of various Coast Guard and TSA personnel, though neither has anything to do with air traffic control or Army aviation. No matter now much you despise the “MSM”, you don’t despise them enough.

Let us remember the lives lost in the collision between a US Army helicopter and a civilian aircraft over the Potomac in Washington, DC last night. Memento mori.

Epistulae Morales ad Lucilium 98.8a
Lucius Annaeus Seneca

Quaeris quod sit amplissimum vitae spatium ? Usque ad sapientiam vivere. Qui ad illam pervenit, attigit non longissimum finem, sed maximum. Ille vero glorietur audacter et dis agat gratias….

And what, you ask, is the fullest span of life? To live continuously for wisdom. He who has attained it has reached, not the furthermost, but the greatest end. Let him truly exult boldly and give thanks to the gods…

Was Trump’s comments regarding the DC tragedy as the process of DEI moral, not to say at least ethical? What sort of moral monster do you support?

You fancy that questioning the Democratic Party’s patronage programs makes one a ‘moral monster’. No, you should not be taken seriously. Any time. Anywhere.

I keep hearing as a possible explanation that the helicopter was given directions from air traffic control to go “behind” the passenger jet, but there was another jet taking off at the same time and the helicopter pilots mistook that plane for the one they were supposed to avoid. Additionally, military aircraft don’t have collision avoidance warning systems like civilian aircraft do because it would be detected by enemy aircraft. If both these statements are true, it sounds like exactly the kind of unfortunate accident that could happen to even an experienced and competent pilot making just a split second wrong decision. It may or may not have anything to do with DEI. The NTSB will figure that out in time.

Logic tells you: The safety personnel are still there from the Biden administration. Trump has been President for a minute. If personnel, policy and procedure is to blame then it lays on the shoulders of whatever system has been in place under Biden. Trump has not been President long enough to make any changes. Trump is correct to attack DEI and any system which was in place which allowed this tragedy to happen.

I don’t understand how civilian and military aircraft’s are sharing the same take-off and landing air space. That’s crazy. That needs to be addressed immediately.

Ezabelle, So far there is no information about terrorism or the accident being deliberate. The Army H-60 was on a check flight. Both pilots, the HAC (Helo Aircraft Commander) and the co pilot, were experienced. One of the pilots had 1,000 flight hours and the other 500 hours. The crew chief was also experienced.
The airplane and the helo were flying VFR. My husband a retired USN test pilot opined that both aircraft should have been flying IFR, in fact for the helo best not to fly the check flight at night near the very busy airport..

The National Transportation Safety Board is tasked by Congress to investigate civil aircraft accidents. I find NTSB spokespersons to be the most credible. Information is not released until it is authenticated. .

Apparently Wednesday night the control tower was seriously understaffed. One air controller was controlling the incoming domestic airplane on one frequency and the helo on another frequency. The airplane came down on the helo. Usually it would be two controllers. FAA has had severe shortages of Air Controllers for years. .

CAPT Hung Cao, USN described in a radio interview what the divers would be confronted with when rescuing under under water. The dangers to the divers and the horror they would see. First the bodies would brought up and belongings. Then barges for debris and a large crane for the fuselage pieces. Cao has participated in the rescue/salvage of many civilian aircraft accidents, e.g., JFK jr, and of course, military aircraft accidents.
