Agreed. And just the practical effect of knowing some Latin opens up one’s vocabulary in ways never previously imagined.

You can’t pull the 1960s out of Vatican II…under the guise of making everything accessible we masked our laziness by eschewing the difficult. What would you expect from a bunch of old men trying to be relevant to the “turn on, tune in, drop out” culture.

I encourage everyone to study and learn Latin (the language of the Church) and Koine Greek (the language in which the New Testament and Septuagint were written). There are so many other resources besides religious ones that will be opened by doing this: the writings of Cicero, Seneca, Sallust and others in Latin; Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations and Plutarch’s writings in Koine Greek, etc. And the best way to keep these ancient languages alive despite what a heretic like Jorge Mario Bergoglio may do is to use them as often as possible, and shove that use right in the faces of modernist bishops and priests who despise tradition. Below are a few links to a few Latin resources that may help:

Magister at Learn Latin has been valuable in correcting my Latin grammar and translation errors.

So……….if you’re going to complain about Pope Francis banning the Latin Mass and you haven’t bothered to learn Latin, then you are a part of the problem. Don’t let Francis get away with his mean and hateful attitude against tradition. Do something about it and learn the language that he hates. BTW, think about this: a Latino fluent in the Spanish and Italian, the daughter languages of Latin, hates the Latin Mass! How oxymoronic is that! Shove his cognitive dissonance right back in his face and that of all the clerics who capitulate to his manifestly wrong commands.

BTW, here is last night’s reading from Cicero just before evening prayer and Scripture study. If I can do this (even with my errors), then so can you.

Cato Maior De Senectute 35b-36a
Marcus Tullius Cicero

Old age is to be resisted, Laelius and Scipio, and its defects must be compensated with diligence, to be fought as against disease, so against old age; to have a plan of health, to use moderate exercises, to use only food and drink that strength may be restored, not overwhelmed. Nor truly that the body alone must be helped, but the mind and spirit much more; for these too, unless you pour oil into the light, are extinguished by old age.

for those who delight in Latin in the liturgy, I urge you to follow Sung Liturgy of the Hours on Youtube: Lauds and Vespers. I do so for Morning and Evening Prayers.
