Whoever thinks an online petition is going to have any effect on what the pope decides is beyond delusional!
Bishops are listening. They need not abide by the dictates of a dictator, especially when it’s inconceivable that the Latin Mass is bad and we’re in after all now a Synodal Church right?
An online petition won’t have the slightest effect on him, no.
But the new Agatha Christie letter about the TLM probably is weighing on the regime’s mind. If there’s one thing the pontiff loathes, it’s bad media optics.
Not Catholic media or American media, but European news media. That gets through the Santa Marta Bubble.
If the ban comes, then the bishops who care about their TLMers–and there are a significant number–will have to turn it into a dead letter. Letting themselves be buffeted by an endless stream of motu proprios has to stop. You’re either an episcopal brother of the Bishop of Rome and a fellow successor of the Apostles, a Peter in your own diocese, as Chrysostom said–or you’re just the local HR representative for Vatican One, LLC.
The latter does not make for a church that anyone in the first millennium would have recognized.
Francis is the best recruiter SSPX ever had.

Francis will do more to swell the ranks of that society than Levebvre could in his wildest of wild dreams.
