Buckley’s first language was Spanish. Carson was a political liberal, although he made a point of not speaking of his political views publicly. I am struck by the intelligence and cordiality of the discussion that took place on a late night entertainment show. We have fallen so far as a culture in my life time.

It’s virtuous for them, as they deem themselves so much superior to the common man or woman, & presently in control of all major institutions.
They shouldn’t debase themselves by trying to convince people, when they can force them to comply.
Have any of you seen WFB when he laid into Gore Vidal? It was glorious! Vidal was such a spiteful, bitter man. So, it was gratifying to see him confronted by a true gentleman and put, for once, in his place.

That was a great moment. There was no love lost between Buckley and Vidal. Buckley was on pain killers from an injury and was unwilling that evening to put up with Vidal’s usual crap.
