Trump Trial Day One

So on Monday we had the first day of what the media are calling the hush money trial in New York City.  A few observations:

  1.  Legally this trial is a bad farce.  It is not illegal to pay non-disclosure money, hush money, to anyone and it goes on all the time.   Alvin Bragg, the Soros funded DA, indicted Trump for allegedly incorrectly noting the expenditure in business records as a legal fee.  This is a little used feature of New York State corporate law.  In the past it has been used to go after massive fraud of major corporations.  Normally it is a misdemeanor.  Bragg filed these charges beyond the statute of limitations, but the trial judge, Juan Merchan, ruled the statute of limitations had been tolled by Covid.  Bragg is prosecuting these charges as felonies because he alleges that the misstatements were in furtherance of another crime, but he has not yet alleged what the other crime is.  Judge Merchan has allowed the case to proceed forward without making Bragg indicate what the other alleged crime is, which is absolutely stunning.
  2. This joke of a case could only proceed forward with a clearly biased judge, and in a jurisdiction where 87% of the voters voted against Trump in 2020.  Judge Merchan refused attempts by the Defense for a change of venue to more politically even turf, although a change of venue is clearly warranted for purposes of having a fair trial.
  3. Merchan advised Trump that he would be jailed if he does not appear each day, even though a judge in New York State has the power in a criminal prosecution, on motion of a defendant, to allow a defendant not to appear in a criminal trial in whole or in part.  The fact that Trump is in the midst of running for President cuts no ice with Democrat operative Judge Merchan.
  4. Any conviction would likely be overturned on appeal on procedural and substance grounds, but the purpose of this whole exercise is to put convicted felon before Trump’s name in an attempt to sway the electorate in November.
  5. Half the jury pool called for the case have already been tossed out because they admitted on their jury forms that they were biased against Trump.
  6. In the words of the play Evita:  Oh what a circus, oh what a show.

The process is the punishment. This will continue until these judges and prosecutors are held personally responsible. They don’t care if the government agency they work for gets fined years into the future, its no skin off their back.

So we discarded the more honest jurors (who admit bias) for the ones who do not admit it.

This trial does the Dems no favors. Trump is like that old science fiction trope of the creature that feeds off the weapons used against it.

The truly sad part of this is that so few Americans realize that if they are able to so thoroughly pervert legal protections to pursue Trump, we can expect no better and very likely far worse as we are quietly persecuted though prosecution.

Whatever the results of this “trial” and the coming November election, the country will be divided like nothing since the Civil War. Already our enemies, foreign and domestic are on trial runs to see what advantage can be taken of the present and coming crisis situations. The credibility of our commitments overseas has been severely damaged and our domestic environment in many areas been rendered unlivable. The worst part of it all is that it just starting.
