I have a strong inclination to contrariness, as my sainted mother pointed out as I was growing up. Most of the time I keep it under control, but sometimes it comes roaring out. Fortunately I argue, pleasantly usually, for a living.

I enjoy the opening few minutes of The Music Man more than any other film I can recall. Meredith Wilson’s genius is on full display in just those first two numbers, on the train and the one shown above. The only other opening that I will drop everything to watch is the original Top Gun flight deck scene as the intro credits roll, because I am still a wide-eyed little boy when it comes to aircraft. 😁
Met some engineers from the Iowa at a conference last year in New Hampshire, they did make it a point to say:
“We like your license plate”.
