Sometimes I feel that future generations will be sifting through the ashes, wondering how they got to the point of complete ruin.
Years liberal progressive tripe is not the healthiest diet. But who knew?
They “think their ancestors were just uneducated morons…”
Wrong.
For a century our culture has been teaching that everyone from your parents and before were morons.
The arrogant myth that we are the smartest people who ever lived divides families and makes for mistakes that need not have been repeated.
But don’t trust me, man, I’m over 35…
Chesterton, in the opening chapters of The Everlasting Man, wrote the best takedown of “presentism” that I have seen. Worth getting that one if you don’t already have it.
Progressivism is just peer pressure from people who haven’t been born yet, or rather the imaginings of what they’d say (which coincidentally match what progressives want to do).

Qotermeister, there are, alas, entirely too many people in the Vatican who have either never read that, or who have forgotten it.

“Culture” is not an agent. The teachers are people. Not sure it antedates the 2d World War.
We will have the dead at our councils. The ancient Greeks voted by stones; these shall vote by tombstones. It is all quite regular and official, for most tombstones, like most ballot papers, are marked with a cross.
Thank you Quotermeister and Frank.
G.K. Chesterton.
A great gift.
In the absence of tradition every generation ends up having to reinvent the wheel over and over. How is this progress?
Thats what you get when you have generations of kids raised to believe they are a god unto themselves. They believe that the world began with them and it will end with them. History to them is what they did when they were 5.
So it’s no surprise they would lack a mentality that looks to build for future generations. To them everything matters up until the point it doesn’t affect them personally.
It’s called entitlement.
The phone and social media has much to blame for this affliction!
