McCarthy Out as Speaker

I am on a train trip with my Bride, so this will be brief.  Congressman Matt Gaetz (R. Pluto) succeeded in toppling Speaker McCarthy, with all Democrats in the House voting with him, and only 8 Republicans. Gaetz, one of the more odious figures in the Republican Party, thus hands the Democrats a win, and leaves the House GOP caucus in disarray. Gaetz did this under the pretense of being a true conservative. He is actually a true narcissist who believes in only one thing: Matt Gaetz. McCarthy, who I have little love for, had played his hand skillfully as Speaker. Gaetz, the worst type of fool who thinks he is a brilliant genius, has no plan going forward.   He is only a destructive force. It will be up to others to patch together enough votes, to elect a new GOP Speaker, much weakened by this debacle. That is my take; give me yours in the comboxes.

The chairman of the House Appropriations Committee is a Republican from Texas named Kay Granger. Maybe we ask Mrs. Granger why her committee did not produce a stack of appropriations bills to bring to the floor.

I’m not sure what to make of this. However, I don’t see where the mere fact that all the Democrats voted to remove McCarthy “proves” that this decision was wrong. Dems are not going to vote to retain a Republican Speaker, period. I would have been more concerned had any of the Dems voted to retain McCarthy.

I also notice that Gaetz has taken over Ron Paul’s former title of “R-Pluto”.

Beg to differ. McCarthy is a serial liar who reneged on promises he made to secure the Speakership. He had to go, disarray be damned. We can’t demand accountability and refuse to use the chopping block.

You are 100 percent correct, Don.

A preening jackhole who bayed about McCarthy working with Democrats on the CR needed just worked with Dems to decapitate his party in the House.

Whoever succeeds McCarthy will not make the same agreements empowering the likes of Gaetz.

And after the dung-for-brains Gang of 8 doesn’t get the same chaos rights from any GOP candidate, it will eventually be Hakeem Jeffries.

Genius move, Matt. No doubt the fundraising you’ve made off this move will keep you in Brylcreem long into the Apocalypse.

Why is Pelosi just now removing her stuff from SOH office?
I don’t care for any of them but I dislike Pelosi more.
Why didn’t McCarthy make her leave his office?

Dems digging a hole for themselves the past three years and now the Rs to see if they can dig one deeper. No wonder we are hearing more about RFK Jr and a 3rd party bid no matter how illogical that would be.

I think you’re being rather harsh about Gaetz, a tad too friendly to McCarthy. Gaetz should not have pressed the vote to oust him, …yet McCarthy should not have been “skillful” with the recent shutdown threat.
In brief terms, this “revolt” by Gaetz is both a symptom and a cause.
It’s a cause for great dissent right now, sure, yet it’s also a symptom of larger Republican leadership failure.
In essence, I see two sides to the problem: McCarthy is correct that Congress lacked votes to insist on a more conservative budgeting mindset. ..It’s also true that Republican leadership has done little to provoke the American citizenry to demand a more conservative approach.
Certainly there’s a risk of allowing Democrat big-government state-ism to exercise more influence. ..There’s also a chance to provoke people to think more vigorously about the hazards of that same state-ism.
In short, the Republican Party needs to get it’s act together. Quickly.

Gaetz should continue with his particular style of acting without any goal or plan. I think skydiving would be a great next pursuit.

221-212 is an unstable state. I don’t know enough to blame either McCarthy or Gaetz; this feels more like a Greek tragedy where the ending is inevitable.

If Gaetz could only scrape together 7 Republicans to stand with him, he had no business bringing this to a vote. He’s an idiot.

That said, I shed no tears for McCarthy. He made promises both to his fellow Representatives in order to win the speakership, and to the GOP base (e.g. to release the J6 tapes) and he reneged on almost all of them under Democrat pressure.

That’s not being “skillful”–that’s being spineless.

McCarthy earned his ouster. He made backroom deals with Biden and others in the Administration. The House GOP feel that McCarthy lied to them and did not fullfill his promises to them when campaigning for Speaker. The national debt is of big concern, payment almost equals the GNP. The GOP wanted a budget that would keep the spending at FY 2022 levels. Another promise instead of huge catch all bills there would be multiple single subject bills.
If you listen to conservative radio in the DC metro area, esp. WMAL 105.9 there are three local daytime shows, two in the am and one in the drive time. With the Hill close by Congressional and Senate members are frequent guests. One learns what really goes on.
BTW lets remember that the left Dems framed Matt Gaetz with a morals charge to ruin him. He was exonorated. The Left plays hard ball. That said my dad was suspicious of men who did not part their hair.
