Odd they had a Spanish Mass since Lisbon is in Portugal but then IKEA bowls were odd also.
And they say no one believes in the real presence anymore … Go figure.
Rich Leonardi once posted a picture of Bp. Pilarczyk offering Mass with certain vessels about him. The caption: “Bishop inks the deal with Pottery Barn”.
I’m sure they had attendees from both. I’m thinking they should have split the difference and celebrated Mass in Latin😁
Of course, I don’t know any priests who would offer the Latin Mass and use those… ciboria!
Maybe these World Youth Days should end?
Maybe these World Youth Days should end?
Christopher Ferrara’s critiques of World Youth Day of 20 years past seemed at the time too dyspeptic. At the time.
Two points:
I imagine there are a number of Masses for pilgrims in their respective languages. For example, Bishop Barron probably offered Mass in English for the USA contingent. (Don’t get me started on Latin verses the thousands of “unifying” vernaculars.)
As for the Ikea bowls, they said it was to emphasize humility. Which is odd that to do so they humble not themselves, but in effect attempt to humble Christ. I think it’s a continuation of the heterodoxy common in Novus Ordo Masses where the “celebrant” is the focal point, and he feels the need to be humble through such profane acts. Turn him around and undo the focality of the celebrant (Is that what liberals mean when they refer to clericalism?) and you no longer have a need to for felt banner / Ikea bowl piety.
“Distributing the Eucharist to hundreds of thousands of pilgrims is not easy. Several months ago, WYD organizers began to enlist extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, who received special formation over the past few weeks. A total of 1,800 Eucharistic ministers were present at the opening Mass.” go here to read the full explanation (it’s in the middle of the article) https://www.pillarcatholic.com/p/francis-european-challenge-and-christmas
Then He said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of [about] fifty.”
