Cardinal Newman:
I end with an extract from the Pastoral of the Swiss Bishops, a Pastoral which has received the Pope’s approbation.
“It in no way depends upon the caprice of the Pope, or upon his good pleasure, to make such and such a doctrine, the object of a dogmatic definition. He is tied up and limited to the divine revelation, and to the truths which that revelation contains. He is tied up and limited by the Creeds, already in existence, and by the preceding definitions of the Church. He is tied up and limited by the divine law, and by the constitution of the Church. Lastly, he is tied up and limited by that doctrine, divinely revealed, which affirms that alongside religious society there is civil society, that alongside the Ecclesiastical Hierarchy there is the power of temporal Magistrates, invested in their own domain with a full sovereignty, and to whom we owe in conscience obedience and respect in all things morally permitted, and belonging to the domain of civil society.”
HA! And Chazz Michael Michaels IS figure skating!!
So Rich the Hyperpapalist had, as of the time of the screenshot, 2000- plus views and all of 33 “likes.” I believe the Twitterati call that “getting ratioed.”
Heh.
” Le estat? Se moi!”
Raho’s wrong in theory, but correct in practice. Functionally, each reigning pope blots out the sun. And when everyone owes papal teaching “religious submission of mind and will,” per Vatican II, he occupies the field.
Now, I am morally certain Raho’s papal fideism would last as long as a June frost if Pius XIII were elected, but he’s in a large company on that point.
“all the popes before “me” were wrong, all of scripture, all of holy (rigid) tradition… ”
Then dear sir, you haven’t a leg to stand on. I will in no way pay attention to anything you say.
ps. 2 + 2 = 4
“There are too many semantics floating about” is a perversion of the term semantics:”the branch of logic and linguistics dealing with meaning.” Although, much as I hate to admit it, I am an anti-semantic.
He refused to use the title Vicar of Christ and many were impressed by the humility of that. “Of Christ” is the crucially limiting factor of a Pope’s power.
Forget that you are steward, not king, and things can go very wrong.
