I think this will do damage to Big Conservatism by demonstrating just how rich they are getting for their political advocacy. The numbers are simply unreal to normal people.
I’ve been a paying member of the Daily Wire for about 5 years, having followed Andrew Klavan there from PJTV. The money they offered Crowder was a shock to me. I clearly have no conception of the money involved in political commentary.
I had no idea either George, and I also am a paying member to Daily Wire. I don’t expect these guys to take a vow of poverty, but that type of money can’t help but have a big impact on most people, often not to the good.
$12.5 million a year to produce a daily show, not simply star in it. That doesn’t seem high to me, considering all the revenue streams it opens up. Internet-era economics is weird. I personally never click on ads, and I can’t think of the last time I bought something based on an ad read, even on a conservative show. And superchats – a show can broadcast for free but also ask you to pay them, and people pay them. The only way that works is if society is near post-scarcity.
The way that Candace Owens and other critics instantly went to “Crowder just wants more money, or else he wouldn’t be complaining” told me a lot more about their priorities than Crowder’s.
