VATICAN CITY (ChurchMilitant.com) – Seminarians from Barcelona say they were scandalized when Pope Francis reportedly used the f-word and other expletives at a papal audience in Rome.

According to testimonies from the seminarians, Francis ranted against “fing careerists who f up the lives of others.” The pope criticized “those who climb to show their a**,” the Italian media outlet Daily Compass reported on Monday.
The trainee priests were shocked when Francis also reportedly insisted that priests should never deny absolution to penitents in the confessional under any circumstances.
Eyewitnesses describe how the pontiff, at the audience on Dec. 10, tossed his prepared speech aside, saying that “it would have been boring.” Instead, Francis told the seminarians to ask him questions.
“After handing out the address prepared for the occasion, the pope engaged in dialogue with those present at the meeting,” the Holy See Press Office clarified.
The pope’s speech, which was sent to the Vatican press corps, is very different in content from the Holy Father’s alleged off-the-cuff remarks. The former reminds the seminarians that their “first obligation will be a life of prayer born of gratitude” when they become priests.
Go here to read the rest. Anyone surprised? Behind the scenes it has long been known that the Pope is a nasty piece of work with a short fuse and a vile temper. He knows that most seminarians are traditionalists and PopeWatch guesses he was in a bad mood addressing them. If he were a priest, PopeWatch would hope that his Bishop would retire him or place him in a position limiting his contacts with others to a bare minimum.

Maybe he’s campaigning for sainthood?
Maybe he was hungry?
Jorge cusses and swears like a submarine sailor. Not surprised at all.
I find it ironic that an ad for a porn blocking service is beneath this article! 😉
No doubt, his pique inflamed by knowing his time is short and the Church he worked so ruthlessly to destroy is surviving, evidenced by the obviously pious and dedicated Barcelona seminarians before him, now Bergoglio can only be a archaic display of the 60’s: debunking the holy, very publicly insulting the very sacred office he holds, doing his best to shock and dismay, thinking anachronistically that this will achieve his desired effect.
Instead of being avant-garde, in a world now predominantly atheistic and materialistic and now yearning for the timeless and transcendent, having presided over a Catholic Church he has done his level best to destroy (like many Jesuits), and not being ever very much of a deep thinker, he has no comprehension how embarrassingly dated and useless his “message” is in the present time.
It no doubt is infuriating to him to the point of chain-flinging f-bombs. A very bitter nasty man.
@ LCQ: thank God this man is nowhere near a nuclear submarine, nor near the launch command post. Always good to imagine: “Things could be worse.”
F bombs?
1. Pell passing Letter & no real way to strike back.
2. Benedict’s passing – for the first time, he may be feeling the full weight of the Office.
3. “Ask not for whom the bell tolls…”
4. There really isn’t any reason to continue the suppression of the Latin Mass after Francis.
Yes.
This is why we pray for his conversion. It’s not what man puts in his mouth that makes him unclean. It’s what comes out of his mouth. The heart can not hide forever.
By the fruits indeed…
Well. I will continue to pray for him.
I agree that he is angry to see that the 60’s promise to reform the house has done nothing but destroy the Holy Catholic Church. As communion rails, statues and even the placement of tabernacles return to their proper place, a reformist see’s defeat.
These words are true Pope Francis;
God condescends to use our powers, if we don’t spoil HIS plan with ours.” Blessed Fr. Solanus Casey.
I hope the Cardinals of the next conclave are taking notes. Do they want the next Pope to be another Francis, someone who “… climb(s) to show their a**”?
The only thing I can think of is the word “culo”, which is a very idiosyncratic word in both Spanish and Italian. Maybe he said something that an Argentine might say in public but a Barcelonan wouldn’t? That’s all I’ve got.
Why would we want him to be retired or canceled? That’s only for the traditional and faithful priests! 🙄
I am also wonder if PF’s snit was catalyzed in part by the obviously heart-felt expressions of love and sympathy on the occasion of the funeral of P. Benedict XVI.
He has to know there will not be a great similar outpouring of expressions of loss at his passing.
In fact, there may be an outright festive celebration.
@ Pinky: Since the reports are quite specific that PF used the F-bomb, I think he used the word that begins with “j-“ and rhymes with “poder.”
That would be very Argentinan. And tres Bergoglio.
At least he didn’t talk about eating crap again … Take the win Barcelona! 😀
“The trainee priests were shocked when Francis also reportedly insisted that priests should never deny absolution to penitents in the confessional under any circumstances.”
.
I got a “cheap” absolution once. The priest questioned my remorsefulness (sp?), which gave me something to think about–which I got to do for, oh, maybe three seconds? And then he cheerfully announced that God’s forgiveness was abundant, and I was absolved. With not even the requirement of a Hail Mary.
.
I have not been back to that parish for confession since before Covid.
I got a “cheap” absolution once.
Best confession I ever had was over forty years ago from a priest who told me I was on a path to Hell and that seeking absolution for sins continually repeated indicated a lack of willingness to amend my life. It had a major impact for good on my life.
