In 1996, Tokyo Baptist Church was very excited about some positive coverage in one of the local newspapers (or maybe it was a TV station?) they thought they were going to get. To say that the reality was disappointing would be an understatement. The actual story that was run was “How to Have a Cheap Christmas”, and the bit about Tokyo Baptist Church culminated with, “The service is free, but don’t forget to tip.”
There is a difference between a nation that was once Christian and one that never was. I’m not sure which is worse, but regardless, they are different.
