Fact of Business Life Number One

There is a reason why it is called work.  I have always  rewarded hard work and drive at the Law Mines.  Such employees I have helped in the rough spots in their lives, because they have earned my respect, loyalty and often my admiration.  Employees that could not do the work did not work for me long after being admonished once.  Life is so much more than the work we engage in, but when we are at work we must be focused and diligent.  If a job demands too much, move on.  I have done this during my life.  But to perform below our capabilities due to laziness or some notion that we are owed a living by the world is to engage in a form of quiet theft.

Apathy… I-really-don’t-care…for-it, in fact I hate it. Apathy is poison and a form of living death.

Sadly, my experience is that both are correct. It’s apathy alright. But it’s as present in the corporate boardroom as it is in the fast food grill line.

There are times I dislike my employer. There are times that dislike is not strong enough. Nevertheless, I give them my best. I always look for a better, faster, more accurate way to accomolish tasks to reduce preparation time and allow more review time for my superiors.
My work ends up in the hands of state insurance regulators and there is no room for error.
What is more, is that I have an obligation to my manager to take the initiative and solve problems on my own. I should make my manager look good in the process of making myself look good.
Considering that I have an obligation to provide for my family, quiet quitting is no option.
If you cannot handle the work, or your manager, or your coworkers, find another job….before you have to. It gets a lot harder then.
Yeah, I am 59 and I have seen and been through a lot. Life is tough. Get tough.

I see both sides of this. On the one hand most people absolutely do not put in what should be even the bare minimum, even when their job entails being responsible for others (ex. medicine, teaching, repair work, even stuff in the service industry.) So morally I do not support the “do as little as possible, drain as much cash as possible” viewpoint.

But on the flip side suppose you are hiring and you get applicant after applicant who says that they won’t do an easy job unless you pay them more. You find no applicants who will do the job for the salary offered. Then the salary you are offering is too low, from a purely economic standard. It is the same as if you offer a high quality product which people really should pay a premium for, but no one does even after you advertise. Then your price is too high, even if it really is the fault of the public for not recognizing your quality work. Similarly if you can’t fill a position then your salary is too low, even if your applicants really are all lazy and entitled.

It’s entitlement. People want more for doing less. It’s becoming tougher to find people who have a strong work ethic. But the reasons for this is calls for a lengthy discussion.

Unfortunately, I have many cynical, sarcastic, and uncharitable thoughts about many people. Fortunately, I keep them in my alleged mind and tell nobody.

For instance, my wife’s once uber-liberal, lawyer brother-in-law is now three sheets to the wind demented and senile diapers and all. I tell myself, “He went from shameless to brainless in less than three years.” His three kids are no better.

I blame Adam and Eve for having to toil for our sustenance.

I grew up the richest kid on Long Island. We didn’t have much money. We had faith, hope, and love in abundance which made me rich beyond measure. Although, I didn’t see it then.

So, I was a bit better at earning money and my kids had more material things. I tried to give them the real riches, too.

No, you just complain a great deal.
