One of three Marianist teaching Brothers assigned to Cidudad Real who were martyred by Republican forces in September and October 1936 after the start of the Spanish Civil War in July 1936. They were close enough to areas occupied by the Nationalists that they could probably have escaped. However, they stayed where they were, thinking it their duty to stay where they were and continue teaching their pupils. They were arrested and released several times before their eventual murders. The murders occurred weeks apart, with the last one being Brother Fidel Fuidio Rodriguez in mid October. Staying in such a situation out of a sense of duty required immense courage and immense faith.
