Two reasons why Trump often has crappy lawyers:
- Â He has a well earned reputation for trying to stiff attorneys on their bills.
- He has a fondness for being represented by young, attractive female attorneys with their appearance often seeming to be more important than their ability.
Trump had strong legal arguments to make in the wake of the 2020 election, but too often he was represented in court by fifth rate attorneys, barely able to handle a speeding ticket case. He may have learned at least part of his lesson. The attorneys representing him thus far in the documents case strike me as competent, albeit not brilliant.
Rudy Giuliani
“America’s Mayor” was well past his hero days, and throughout his representation of Trump in 2020 was most notable for the amount of alcohol he was consuming and his extreme confusion in court. Trump stiffed him on his legal bill which in this case was somewhat understandable.
Forgive me Don. I have a hard time wrapping my mind around why some lawyers can bill millions and millions of dollars. (And why their firms like dentists typically don’t contribute to health insurance for their workers. Separate question.)
Greed is not unknown in the legal profession, to say the least, but a complicated case eats up an attorney’s time in nothing flat. I recently worked on an Estate matter which took six weeks of my time to resolve. I voluntarily reduced my hourly billing by three quarters of the time I expended simply because if I did not, I would have taken just under one-third of the value of the Estate and that did not strike me as fair. Overhead is another consideration. The law mines overhead is fairly modest, but I must bring in 12K each month before I can pay myself my first dollar.
Law firm staff are often married women who get their insurance from their spouses. Often times the employees would prefer to have additional payroll cash rather than health insurance. I have always emphasized a bonus system where staff receive extra pay throughout the year depending upon how the law mines are doing. Extra pay helps morale, and gives everyone who works there a stake in the law mines and helps them feel, to some extent, that they are also working for themselves.
They grabbed Mike Lindell at a fast food stop.
You did not mention the cancellings, shunnings, death threats and arrest warrants from Biden’s gestapo.
It is existential and emblematic of a country that spent six months in beatification and national mourning [rioting, looting, arson] over a career criminal that had held a gun to a pregnant woman’s unborn baby.
That’s not even considering his options being whittled down by unconscionable attacks on any attorney that tries to represent him.
