Then again, he’s not any worse than some lectors I’ve heard. Alas.
One of the more prevalent and unfortunate misunderstandings of the acts of Vatican II was the belief that the “full and active participation in the liturgy” called for by the Council meant having lay people do things previously reserved to various levels of Holy Orders and Minor Orders. Regrettably, in his zeal for “reform” whether needed or not, Paul VI suppressed the Minor Orders and changed them in a way that made their nearly complete takeover by laity virtually certain. As anyone here undoubtedly knows, this results in wildly varying quality of presentation in many parishes, as there are no standards that are actually enforced for how someone ought to be prepared for reading Sacred Scripture at Mass. This is low on the list of Things in the Church That Need Fixing, to be sure, but bad lectors (of many types) and laypeople passing out Holy Communion are two that irritate me the most. There, I feel better now. 😁
/Rant over.
Removing kneelers as one slides under the pew in front is not much conducive to sanctity. Homemade levened bread suppposedly transubstantiated . Removing the tabernacle from the altar. I go to church to see Christ. Too bad for me.
