In the Event of Nuclear War the Government Tells Us to Stay Masked and Maintain Social Distance

This regime is quickly moving beyond parody. The Babylon Bee can’t keep up.
Here is the complete set of instructions from Ready.gov in the event of a nuclear explosion:

You can go to the following web link to find a nuclear weapons blast effect calculator from MIT:

Alex Wellerstein’s Nuke Map simulator is currently out of service (at least when I checked it this morning).

Yes, COVID-19 precautions are included since a pandemic doesn’t disappear when there is another catastrophe (and no, I am not a believer in COVID-19 hysteria; I am just relating what I read at the web site).
Current status (or status 17 hours ago) from the US DoD:

Maybe people [that were alive in 1973] didn’t know it. The USAF/SAC was on DEFCON 2 in October 1973 when the USSR threatened to parachute two divisions into the Sinai to save the Egyptian army from annihilation by the gallant IDF.
None of this would be happening if President Trump was not ousted.
If only the residents of Hiroshima had the Biden Administration at the helm…
Masked and six feet of distancing.
Why…, they would of been so much better off being baked alive, but they just didn’t have the science behind them.
Thank Gosh for our fearless leader.
sarcasm off
Mask, then duck and cover.
Parody is increasingly hard in our absurd times.
I disagree with Steve about being at DefCon 2, which is cocked and locked. By every account, we have not changed our readiness posture at all. Which, given Putin’s instability, is the wise choice.
But I can guarantee we are watching their Strategic Rocket Forces with redoubled vigilance.
Was there any mention of vaccines, i.e. getting the jab, boostering, having a vaccine passport on ones person?

IIRC, we were at DefCon3.
Guys,
There are concentric circles of varying levels of destruction radiating outward from the center of a nuclear detonation (as there are with any detonation, nuclear or non-nuclear). Obviously, those within the destructive overpressure region will be immediately destroyed. But those outside this region may survive the initial detonation.
There is a difference between nuclear and conventional explosions (besides blast magnitude) that makes nuclear ones so problematic: fallout of radioactive fission products like iodine-131 and strontium-90. So, in addition to having to stockpile supplies like clean water, and dry and canned foods, and so forth, there is a need to prevent inhalation and ingestion of radioactives. Any type of face mask will help against inhalation, but such a mask (like the COVID-19 ones) have very limited usefulness. Special filtration masks are required. And any ingestion of water of foodstuff contaminated by fallout is especially injurious, hence the need for stockpiling water and non-perishable foodstuff.
Sheltering indoors for a few days after a blast over a nearby metropolitan region allows time for radioactives to “fall out of” the atmosphere. The air in a sheltered place won’t have near the degree of radioactive contamination that air outside will have. I live on the outskirts of a large metropolitan area. If a blast happened in downtown, it is likely not to extend beyond the beltway encircling the city. My family and I are another 19 miles from that beltway. We would not die from the blast, but depending on wind speed and direction, fallout could conceivable pass over us (though prevailing wind patterns are usually opposite). Therefore, I would have the family shelter inside for a few days (and we would break out the arms and ammunition we have just in case there are marauders). We have many canned goods and dry food stuff, as well as a propane grill, so immediate hunger is not an issue. Clean water will always be a problem once bottled water supplies are exhausted because the water in the local creek will likely be contaminated with radioactives. But some preparation can be made.
Conclusion: don’t ridicule preparation for such an event as laughable because “everyone is going to die immediately.” That is not true. Sadly, most will die in the subsequent weeks to months afterwards due to radiation exposure – both external and internal – and the usual causes in any war, nuclear or non-nuclear: starvation, disease and marauding bandits.
I was more poking fun at the continuance of the lockdown freak out. YouTube has videos of declassified, sanitized films of the the post-WWII nuclear tests. I’ve watched quite a few of them. These tests show what a different beast nuclear explosives are compared to conventional explosives. It took a while for people to fully appreciate the radiation and fallout effects.
Sorry LQC. My line of sarcasm was the WHOle comment. Please know this.
There isn’t anyone who visits this site that i would take advice from regarding nuclear activities unless it was you. It’s been a few years now since I found, happily found, TAC. When it comes to anything nuclear you are the man.
I apologize for my asinine comment above. It’s nothing but sophomore humor…ok. Freshman. 🙂
All the wisdom above is meaningless until Dr. fauci tell us how to handle it. I’ve soaked my cloth mask in iodine in preparation for the big bang.
