Giving Putin His Laugh For the Day

We are viewing the biggest foreign policy debacle since Dean Acheson implied we would not fight a Communist invasion of South Korea, helping to ignite the Korean War, and the Puppetmasters Administration wants to make sure that Americans fleeing Russian tanks have a current Covid test.  I used to enjoy the Monty Python show back in the seventies;  I never thought that half a century later I would be living in a Monty Python world.

Seem to recall that Franklin said something about trading freedom for perceived security and deserving neither.

Send Lindsey Graham and an Army of volunteers who are willing to risk their lives to protect the territorial integrity of Ukraine. The idiot Biden’s actions do enhance the prospects of war. I think it a good chance that Biden’s actions revolve around using a crisis to save Democrats in the mid-terms. May his incompetence fail.

With the outcome of the Afghanistan debacle, I question the competence of the “woke” leadership. I have no desire to give the Biden administration a blank check for anything.

Is the insistence upon proof of vaccination and a current test coming from the Polish government or from the State Department? It seems rather odd that the State Department would be issuing rules about crossing from the Ukraine into Poland.

Why Lindsey Graham?

The story about Dean Acheson’s speech greenlighting the North Korean invasion of the South is really a myth.

After the fall of the USSR, Western scholars for a brief time got into the archives in Moscow. They found out that Kim planned to invade the South in 1949, but Stalin vetoed the plan. Kim didn’t understand until after the first Soviet nuclear test, when he got the green light. It was in the works long before Acheson’s speech. See Norman Friedman’s The Fifty Year War.

The other interesting thing to come out of the Soviet archives was confirmation that the Truman administration’s guess that this was a test of Western resolve was correct. The invasion of Western Europe was tentatively planned for 1953-55, the American response in Korea derailed that timetable, and Stalin’s death ended it. The revisionist historians of the 1960-1990 era who blamed the U.S. for everything were totally disproven.

I can’t find the official Polish government page for entry requirements. But foreign embassies, such as the UK, list the following requirements:

-Negative test required before entry from everyone including those that are vaccinated.
-Quarantine after entry (some sources say 10 days others 14, others 7) but this can be avoided with vaccination or proof of recent recovery from infection. This is also not required for people staying in Poland for less than 24 hours.

So in any case the State department announcement seems to be backwards: it says that the proof of vaccination is required and the negative test is implied to be optional but is needed to “facilitate” matters, but it’s actually the other way around.

Pray! The Biden administration is just sick enough to think that a war will cure inflation; improve the economy; save the Left and the Dem Party in the ’22 elections and cure all the other evils that Joe has unleased on our country.

“Why Lindsey Graham?” He seems to never have faced a potential armed conflict that he doesn’t think that the United States should be involved .

But Don, Friedman quoted Soviet records that DID survive.

Graham’s been a public figure since 1994. Since then, there was the bombing campaign in Kosovo (which lasted 11 weeks and successfully defanged Serbia’s violent revanchist element), the Afghanistan War (whcih had nearly unanimous support in Congress at the outset), the Iraq War (which had the support of about 70% of the Congress at the outset), and the western surge in Iraq in 2017 (which was brief and succeeded in breaking the back of ISIS, do you object?). I think he favored a more pro-active stance in Libya than other Republicans. Is there any other place you had in mind?

If Acheson had been more careful in his phrasing Stalin might have taken notice.

The idea that Stalin was not influenced by Acheson’s speech is sheer fantasy:

At the very least, these statements contrast.

There you go, Don. Fixed that for you. 😉
