My Uncle Larry has passed away at age 80. He was a sweet man, married to my Aunt Debbie for 52 years. If you needed help and he could give it, you didn’t need to ask him twice. He was the last of my Uncles. I remember my four Uncles and my Aunt Betty vividly. When I was growing up we would always gather together at my grandpa and grandma’s house for Sunday dinner and for Thanksgiving Dinner. These were never solemn occasions, but ones filled with laughter and fun. Now their earthly laughter is stilled, but in my memory it will never die.
Uncle Larry was a simple man who worked hard his whole life. He loved his family and he loved God, and I hope he and his siblings, including my father, are now beholding the Beatific Vision. My father named my brother after Uncle Larry, who he was very fond of, and I named my son Larry after both of them. When my Larry died, Uncle Larry made the long trip up with my Aunt Debbie to be at his funeral, which touched my heart deeply on a very bad day. My Larry and Uncle Larry are now in the next world and I look forward to my eventual reunion with both of them.
My condolences and prayers for your family’s loss, Don. May he rest in peace.
God be with you and your family Don.
Prayers tonight for his soul. Peace.
I’m very sorry for you and your family’s loss.
I’ll remember your Uncle in my prayers.
Thank you for sharing this Don. It really touched my heart. Larry loved all his nephews and nieces. 💕
He was the kindest man I ever met Aunt Debbie. I will miss him greatly.
Thanks for sharing, and my sympathy for your loss. I guessed right away, before reading the entire post, that your son had been named after him.
Thank you for sharing this story, Donald, and my sympathies for your loss. But it isn’t really loss since one day you will go to where surely your Uncle Larry is at now with the Lord and His Blessed Mother.
Prayers for him, you, and yours.
My condolences to you and your family on the passing of your Uncle Larry. He sounded like he was a beautiful soul. Prayers.
Sorry to hear; prayers going up, a loss like that always hurts.
Thank you my friends. A life well led always causes mourning for a loss. A true cause for mourning would be to die and leaving behind no one to mourn.
My very sincere condolences to you and your family, Don. What a great photo of a beautiful soul. Thank you for sharing him with us. May he rest in eternal peace
I’m sorry Don. How is your Aunt Betty? Is there anyone else left of that generation?
My Aunt Sally passed away just after New Year’s last month, and I thank God she kept the faith. She was the last of that generation in my family, and among my in-laws only my mother-in-law is left. I feel very keenly Tolkien’s preoccupation with the passing of memories of the past.
And how is Aunt Debbie?
How is your Aunt Betty? Is there anyone else left of that generation?
No, Uncle Larry was the last. Aunt Betty passed away on November 22, 2004.
Prayers.
