PopeWatch: Cupich

Archbishop Gomez, the head of the USCCB, in a letter congratulating Biden as the new President, included some fairly anodyne language about abortion:

abortion is a direct attack on life that also wounds the woman and undermines the family. It is not only a private matter, it raises troubling and fundamental questions of fraternity, solidarity, and inclusion in the human community. It is also a matter of social justice. We cannot ignore the reality that abortion rates are much higher among the poor and minorities, and that the procedure is regularly used to eliminate children who would be born with disabilities.”

“Rather than impose further expansions of abortion and contraception, as he has promised, I am hopeful that the new President and his administration will work with the Church and others of good will. My hope is that we can begin a dialogue to address the complicated cultural and economic factors that are driving abortion and discouraging families,” he continued.

That was too much for Cardinal Cupich, the right hand man of the Pope in the US:

Cardinal Blase Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, used Twitter to issue a scathing criticism of the USCCB’s official statement on the inauguration of President Joe Biden.

In his four-part Twitter thread on Wednesday, Cardinal Cupich said that “the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops issued an ill-considered statement on the day of President Biden’s inauguration. Aside from the fact that there is seemingly no precedent for doing so, the statement, critical of President Biden, came as a surprise to many bishops, who received it just hours before it was released.”

“The statement was crafted without the involvement of the Administrative Committee, a collegial consultation that is a normal course for statements that represent and enjoy the considered endorsement of the American bishops,” he said.

“The internal institutional failures involved must be addressed, and I look forward to contributing to all efforts to that end, so that, inspired by the Gospel, we can build up the unity of the Church, and together take up the work of healing our nation in this moment of crisis,” the cardinal said.

Go here to read the rest.  Cupich, and presumably the Pope, wants the Church in America to be a cheering squad for the Puppetmasters’ Administration.  Let’s upset their plan, shall we?

Given the obvious anti-Catholic doctrinal statements of Biden and the Democrats the USCCB must, in their loyality to the Catholic Church and Christ Himself, excommunicate Joe Biden from the Catholic Church. Not to do so is a scandal and a sure risk to their eternal souls.

There is only unity in truth. Cupich is exhibit A why the undeclared civil war isn’t just raging in the secular world, it is engulfing the Church also. Well, I know who wins. Sorry, Cupich.

What is the current definition of schism and how has it been achieved in the past? (I know, I could look this up online.)

The Old Catholic Church movement which began as a schism and ended as a heresy is a good example of this.

If I understand correctly, there are two ‘old catholic’ bodies. One is headquartered in the Netherlands and one in Poland and they’re supposedly quite different.

Thanks for that clarification, Don. The implication for today’s situation should then be obvious. (I’m playing the prosecuting attorney role by leading the witness.)

Although Los Angeles, the largest archdiocese in the US, has been headed by a Cardinal since 1948, Archbishop Gomez has not been made Cardinal by Pope Francis.

I live in the Archdiocese of Chicago. Each day I pray that Blaise Cupich will ne day stop acting like a politician and begin acting like the priest he was ordained to be. In the meantime I give not a cent to any institution of the the Archdiocese, including any parish, as this money can, and often does flow into Archdiocese coffers. I do give to Catholic charities, such as the Little Sisters of the poor.
