Schadenfreude Special: Reading the “Statement of CBS” and hearing the whiny complaints from Stahl and company after Trump pre-empted their hit job. Sanctimonious garbage pouring forth from the people who brought us Lying Dan Rather and the forged documents with which he attacked G.W. Bush, not to mention the decades upon decades of “Sixty Minutes” ambushes and propaganda CBS has foisted on the public. As Instapundit’s Glenn Reynolds likes to say, “If you don’t want people to think of you as lying partisan hacks, stop being lying partisan hacks.” Heh. 😁
At first I thought Trump was only running for the Presidency as some kind of game. A feather in his cap. And back in 2016, I voted for him because he was the (R). I didn’t donate to the campaign. I didn’t put a sign in my yard. I didn’t admit to it publicly.
.
And I still kind of think that maybe he ran back in 2016 as a bucket-list kind of thing. But I also wonder that maybe when he got in there he was utterly stupified by how sleazy and corrupt DC is–even more so than he knew going in.
.
Calling DC a “swamp” does severe injustice to a real swamp, like the Everglades. Real swamps are useful and highly photogenic:

Does he lay awake at night and just wonder what the heck he has gotten into? Does Melania? Are they afraid for their children? I know I am afraid for mine.

This year I donated and put a sign in my yard.
DJH, your trajectory in regard to Trump mirrors my own.
The media manifest a mix of incompetence and dishonesty that amazes.
“Does he lay awake at night and just wonder what the heck he has gotten into? Does Melania? Are they afraid for their children? I know I am afraid for mine.”
I do think Trump had no idea just how deep the swamp was. I think he thought like a pragmatic businessman – he’d be able to negotiate and cut deals with the Dems. Ironically, if the Dems had been at all willing to work with him, I don’t think we conservatives would be happy with him as we are. I still don’t think Trump is strongly ideological, but his enemies certainly are. The Democrats’ opposition to everything he did pushed him further to the right than I thought he would go back in 2016.
I also think that’s why he appointed people who later stuck their knives into his back. He wasn’t from DC. He went with Establishment Republicans who are as much a part of the swamp as the Dems are. That’s a thorny problem, because you need experienced people in your administration and unfortunately the talent pool is filled with those who have a vested interest in growing the bureaucratic state. Trump undoubtedly thought their first priority was ensuring that the country thrives. The priority of the elites is ensuing that they thrive, To heck with the rest of us.
But if I was all too much for him, he wouldn’t have run for a second term. In fact, it’s clear he relishes the fight. I have often been annoyed by Trump’s Manhattan sized ego. But I think that ego is what also equips him to fight and keeps him from crumbling. A more introverted and humble man would have caved under the constant attacks and hatred.
As for Melania, she’s difficult to read. What we know is that she has kept her composure under very difficult circumstances.
Trump leads the way! Punch back twice as hard and bring your own camera.
Art Deco has it nailed. A heavy majority knows the media is not trustworthy.
The question is which is more striking: the dishonesty or the stupidity? And it’s not only the lying, moronic liars, but also the miniscule but loud audience.
My suspicion about Mrs. Trump is that she’s a puzzle even to her intimates. They accept that – like a Rubik’s cube – the puzzle will never be solved.
