Republican National Convention-Night One

Well, the Hollywood Glitterati are in the tank for the Democrats, but it was the Republicans who thus far are putting on the better show.  Their speakers were better and much more compelling.  Some highlights:

  1. Mark and Patty McCloskey gave us a preview of how the Democrats intend to treat anyone who attempts to stand up against their pet mobs:

2.  Andrew Pollack, the father of Meadow Pollack who was murdered by the  Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooter in 2018, gave a speech that left me near tears, and after 38 years at the bar tears rarely come to me:

3.  Throughout the evening there were videos of Trump interacting with ordinary Americans.  In the video below Trump is talking to former hostages freed by the efforts of the US.  Throughout his career Trump has been noted for his willingness, and interest, in talking to people from all walks of life.  Person to person Trump has good people skills, and that was shown throughout the evening:

The use of the videos gave the impression that Trump was acting as a genial Master of Ceremonies for the evening and gave the Convention a good structure which a virtual meeting badly needs.

4.  Maximo Alvarez, a Cuban refugee and founder of Sunshine Gasoline, gave a speech which will resonate well in the key state of Florida:

5.  Kim Klacik demonstrated the energy and passion which she showed in here recent video.  She represents a younger generation of blacks who are beginning to wonder what their lock step fealty to the Democrat party has gained for them.

6.  Democratic, yes, you read that right, State Representative of Georgia Vernon Jones, explained why he is supporting Trump:

7.  Senator Tim Scott and former Governor Nikki Haley, both of South Carolina gave stem winding speeches:

8.  After being nominated Trump made a “surprise” appearance and spoke for 50 minutes.  I would not have recommended this, but Trump understands he is the star of the show, and he is going to take the opportunity to talk directly to his audience without the usual hostile media filter:

All in all, a good night for the GOP.

The Cuban-American’s speech was personal.

I worked with a Cuban refugee (RIP) who got out (like from a spy novel) right after the reds took over. One day, he told his family’s tragedy. It took him years and a lot of money to eventually free his parents.

Current mindset:
Sunshine Gasoline? So it’s an identify/solve political corruption group, right?
Yes, after a second or two I realized it was a fuel company….
