Chaos in Chicago early Monday morning:
As the looting and violence unfolded in Chicago’s downtown area early Monday, the Chicago Transit Authority shut down all train and bus service downtown “at the request of public safety officials,” the CTA said. Buses did not run in the area bounded by Fullerton, Cermak and Ashland Avenue for several hours, the CTA said, with all train service temporarily suspended as well.
The bridges over the Chicago River were also lifted at around 4:30 a.m., preventing further entry into and exit from the downtown area.
At around 7:15 a.m., the city’s Office of Emergency Management & Communications tweeted that the CTA was restoring service and bridges and expressway ramps downtown would be opening as various street closures remained in effect around the Loop.
The CTA began the process of restoring train and bus service at around 7:50 a.m. However, it appeared many of the bridges remained lifted beyond when OEMC said they would be, continuing to prevent entry and exit into the downtown area.
Go here to read the rest. A great demographic shift is underway in this country as anyone who can afford it is fleeing increasingly dangerous urban areas. In central Illinois we are already seeing it with one of the greatest real estate booms in years. It is becoming increasingly obvious that Blue America is becoming ungovernable and people are voting with their feet as they flee to Red America, and of course the mainstream media is missing the most important story of the year.
Agree. Real estate folks tell me that here in Venice, Florida that obtaining listings, not sales, is their problem.
The problem is that these people flee the consequences of what they voted for, then proceed at their new locale to vote again for the same thing – Democrats! I see that here in the suburbs around Charlotte whuch now now is wholly blue. They learn NOTHING!
If they own the State legislature, (as in Maryland), out of town tax money goes into the city, (such as Baltimore). This has happened for years. I don’t know how to stop it, and it must be even worse for the citizens of Illinois.
My impression is that Chicago was always kind of a rough town, but I am forced to wonder if things really got out of hand when The Mob/Al Capone gotten taken down.
.
A former friend of mine moved from our purple state to much greener pastures in a red State Big City (one listed above). Liberal before, he really seems to have gone off the deep end.
.
Lifty-ism is a horrific religion.
My impression is that Chicago was always kind of a rough town, but I am forced to wonder if things really got out of hand when The Mob/Al Capone gotten taken down.
waggles hand
They got taken down because of generational rot– didn’t understand the heart of what let their predecessors succeed. (Example: Mafia protection rackets extorted, yes, but they also actually protected those who payed)
Similar thing happening with activists, if there’s not a real enemy to fight.
What Lucius said. The Blues will move into red areas and quickly turn them into new versions of what they left.
Seeing how Virginia “blue up” in the space of 15 years is all you need to know.
In regard to Virginia the ceaseless expansion of the Federal government brought a host of Federal employees who were refugees from nothing other than common sense. I think the refugees from Blue areas now tend to be fairly conservatives. We shall see.
“I think the refugees from Blue areas now tend to be fairly conservatives.” Not in the Charlotte area. Nor in the Governor’s office in Raleigh. Not enough of them yet in SC across the border where I am to do damage. But I have neighbors who fled the NE or GLAKES or left coast, and they are adamantly progressive. The one just on the north side of my house (single black mother whose boyfriend died in a shooting) hates Trump no matter what, and the other to south (she’s a never-married 30 something professional woman in banking) is likewise decidedly liberal. Yes, we got conservatives, but after the George Floyd thing they removed their Trump flags from their houses in fear. I am just telling you what I see. These people flee the consequences of what they voted for, but will NOT change their paradigm. They do NOT realize that in a very real sense THEY caused this mess.
In addition to all the above, taxpayers were fleeing blue cities and states before the Chinese virus panic/lunatic overreactions and government sanctioned riots.
In 2019, NY reported that it lost $2.3 billion in tax receipts on emigres to other jurisdictions.
Now, that they’ve destroyed their economies and tax bases with the insane lockdowns, the crazy blue places are about to go the way of the Titanic.
Blue America is spreading like a cancer, turning Red America purple.
Sometimes you folks could depress a hyena. The besetting sins of conservatives are pessimism and inertia, both unwarranted.
The blue state people who emigrate to red states will not learn from the consequences of their decisions. It’s like what Revelation 9:20-21 states:
20 The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands nor give up worshiping demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which cannot either see or hear or walk; 21 nor did they repent of their murders or their sorceries or their immorality or their thefts.
Now remember that I do NOT represent any corporation, company, organization, government or religious entity, etc.; my opinions are my own. I have to put that disclaimer there (even if only because I am paranoid). But my industry – nuclear power – used to be very conservative. Now it’s overtaken by liberal progressive “woke” politics. Fully half the people or more will vote for Biden because they hate Trump. It doesn’t matter how much Trump has actually helped nuclear power in having the US DOE finance new nuclear designs. They would rather vote for an anti-nuclear Democrat. I was in shock when I saw at “Neutrons ‘R Us” a BLM symbol. We got it removed (by anonymous complaints – no politicizing in nuclear power). But before the COVID fake crisis you could go into the parking lot and find dozens of cars with Bernie Sanders bumper stickers. I would tell these people that Bernie is a die hard anti-nuke. It didn’t matter: capitalism is evil and Bernie is honest. I could tell you stories of conversations I had with individual people (really smart engineers who are going to vote for Biden even if he has dementia), but I won’t do that in this public forum – not fair to them and not right to betray anonymity and confidentiality. And I have been informed that this is now everywhere in my industry. The bottom line is that these people believe in all that global warming nonsense, social justice idiocy and LGBTQ diversity. The world is different now and Trump as President is only a temporary reprieve.
I don’t mean to be pessimistic, but unless a miracle happens that forces people to change their hearts and perspectives, we are in for a wild ride.
Sorry, Donald, for being depressing. But I can only tell you what I see and hear. 🙁
Based on what I am hearing from you folks today political defeat for conservatives is inevitable and that is complete rubbish. Blue States are in melt down mode and you all see disaster rather than opportunity. I have many qualms about Trump, but he is a fighter and he doesn’t have the conservative disease of going into a fight assuming one is going to be beaten. In that he reminds me of Reagan. I close with this remark of Grant:
One of the generals, obviously thrown by the events on our right flank, came to my command post and said, “General Grant, this is a crisis that cannot be looked upon too seriously. I know Lee’s methods well by past experience; he will throw his whole army between us and the Rapidan, and cut us off completely from our communications.”
I am afraid I lost my temper. I replied, “Oh, I am heartily tired of hearing about what Lee is going to do. Some of you always seem to think he is suddenly going to turn a double somersault, and land in our rear and on both of our flanks at the same time. Go back to your command, and try to think what we are going to do ourselves, instead of what Lee is going to do.”
Is pessimism or realism? I would like to believe it’s the former. But I don’t know.
Any conservative town or city receiving refugees from left-wing dumps need to say to them, “We welcome you here. In case any of you are democrats, you will leave such votes in the crap holes you fled from if you know what’s good for you.”
Grew up in a Conservative family in the rustbelt of Midwest, came of age in the South, and have spent the last decade living in a VERY fast-growing part of the American South. Am living in a small-ish town now, and it’s incredible to how many people from New York and New Jersey live within a short walk of my house. My sister (who, unfortunately, has lately moved to New England) says that she saw a statistic claiming that 150,000 people have left nearby Brooklyn in this year so far ALONE. In my area, though, many of these northern-transplant folks are flying Battle Flags and decorating with other southern decor.
Regarding Red States turning purple, I imagine it is for two reasons: 1: Liberal exiles don’t want it to be true that their ideology is the cause of massive social and economic problems, so this reasonable (and proven!) idea likely won’t ever occur to them; and 2) the Conservatives in the Red States do not appreciate and understand what they have always had enough to realize they must fight tooth and nail to defend it every. single. election cycle. As Mr. Dale Ahlquist wrote in a brilliant essay, “And conservative does not mean leaving something alone; it means we have to work hard just to keep things the same. If we want a white post, we have to keep painting it white.” [What’s Wrong with the World (And How to Fix It) ]
I spend too much time at the Holidays with extended family, smart, successful, otherwise admirable people, who vote like craven cretins to be anything but pessimistic.
Sure, the victory is already won, but as a student of military history, you of all people should know that the killing is at its worst when the battle has been decided but the fighting continues.
A good poem for pessimists:
Say not the Struggle nought Availeth
By Arthur Hugh Clough
Say not the struggle nought availeth,
The enemy faints not, nor faileth,
If hopes were dupes, fears may be liars;
Your comrades chase e’en now the fliers,
For while the tired waves, vainly breaking
Far back through creeks and inlets making,
And not by eastern windows only,
In front the sun climbs slow, how slowly,
