PopeWatch: Father Dan Horan

The latest droppings from the pen of Father Dan Horan:

In a June article published in the National Catholic Reporter, Father Daniel Horan, the Duns Scotus Chair of Spirituality at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, attempts to cast the use of the term “gender ideology” as discrimation against “LGBTQ people” and comparable to historical examples of what he calls the Catholic Church’s “institutional sinfulness and its slow course to correction.”

The term “gender ideology” is used frequently by Catholics and conservatives to refer to developments such as the global push to redefine marriage so as to include the possibility of so-called “same-sex marriage” and the increasing promotion of transgenderism, including the push to allow children to undergo so-called “gender reassignment surgery.”

*****************************************************

But Horan argues that rather than “gender ideology,” the real problematic ideology today is an “uncritical promotion of 13th century pseudo-science and ancient philosophical theories that, while interesting and influential, are no longer sufficient to account for important developments in human knowledge and experience since the Middle Ages.”

Citing Pope Francis’s 2013 apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium, Horan argues that “the presentation of a nearly eight centuries-old understanding of the human person that is somehow complete in itself apart from whatever we might learn about humanity or the world subsequently is exactly the reduction of the faith to a ‘museum piece.’”

Horan even goes so far as to suggest that St. Thomas Aquinas’s use of Aristotelian philosophy, controversial among thirteenth-century Catholics theologians, is comparable to those adopting novel ideas today “arising from studies about sex and gender.”

Go here to read the rest.  Longtime readers of this blog will doubtless be familiar with Horan.  Go here and here to read about him.  The Church has always had head cases and heretics among the clergy.  In the current pontificate however such men, so long as they are supporters of Pope Francis, are quite powerful within the Church.   All you need to know about this pontificate is the creatures who have prospered under it.

“All you need to know about this pontificate is the creatures who have prospered under it.” Yes, more evidence of the rotten fruit of Vatican II which must be abrogated in its entirety.

“A little knowledge is a dangerous thing,” validated once again. Duns Scotus must be whirling in his grave.

It’s funny. His point of view goes way back before the Middle Ages, all the way to the Garden. he wants to be his own God. We know how that turned out.

Nobody listens to me.

I always say, “Philosophy is making up stuff about stuff. Theology is making up stuff about God.”

Objective Truth doesn’t change with societal [downward spiral] ‘evolution.’

Heresy.

Sodom and Gomorrah and the whole of Judeo-Christian moral teaching since Adam and Eve were ‘divine ‘mistakes based on ‘discoveries in the late 1970’s or a 2013 Peronist pope’s comments?’ God doesn’t make mistakes.

Already, we have running rampant black lies matter, ‘cultural Marxism’, LGBTQ craziness, China virus terrorism, climate alarmism, etc. We have scam science pushing these hoaxes, e.g., 57 genders, climate alarmism, the dread China virus panic porn. Now we have Danny Horan’s innovative, scam theology.

Heretics advance complete nonsense which is positively contrary to 2,000 years of Church Teaching – ‘cultural theology.’

He may have a big future in the ‘Piskie church – years ago they embraced sacramental sodomy.

Again, scam theology.

“…uncritical promotion of 13th century pseudo-science and ancient philosophical theories …”
The left, almost by default, deflects truth by making references to modernity itself as gospel truth… (example; Hillary when caught–“Oh, that’s old news.”)
Old and true is always bad, change, however corrupt or immoral, is always good.

We need a Phinehas (Numbers chapter 25), a Mattathias (1st Maccabees chapter 2) to deal with these heretics. If God doesn’t punish Daniel Horan in like manner, then He will have to apologize to Ananias and Sapphira in Acts chapter 5 for having struck them dead because they lied about how much they donated to the Church. Is that harsh? Read at the harsh words that Jesus told the Church at Thyatira in Revelation chapter 2:

“Yet I hold this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, who teaches and misleads my servants to play the harlot and to eat food sacrificed to idols. I have given her time to repent, but she refuses to repent of her harlotry. So I will cast her on a sickbed and plunge those who commit adultery with her into intense suffering unless they repent of her works. I will also put her children to death. Thus shall all the churches come to know that I am the searcher of hearts and minds and that I will give each of you what your works deserve.”

Since when does Jesus change? Did He suddenly become everyone’s cuddly little teddy bear buddy after Vatican Council II? Or is He the Lord God Almighty of the Universe, the Eternal Logos, the Judge of the Living and the Dead? His sacrifice on the Cross is NOT to be taken lightly, and should strike fear into our hearts and gratitude in our actions, spurring us to remorse for our sins and repentance.

So now the fact of sex is 13th century pseudo-science?

The Lysenkoism is strong with this one.

Above all else they are against proper names. Calling a woman a woman and a man a man.

Even from Horan’s perspective there should be nothing objectionable about the term “gender ideology.” He is advancing an ideology advocating a radically different view of gender. But his ilk can only be successful if most people don’t realize what they are doing, so they hate above all else to be called what they all.

Like vampires to sunlight, so to are heretics to truth.

Unlike Martin, the Rev. Horan actually has some intellectual heft.

But like Martin, Horan is a viper who loves special pleading. Will he consider the “understandings” of homosexuality and gender dysphoria which described both as mental illness until quite recently? Of course not. His “understandings” over the last 800 years really mean the last fifty. And even then, the cherry-picking will be in full force.
