June 9, 2020: US Death Toll

Just to keep track of the nonsense that has wrecked our economy and generally made our politicians run around as if their fool heads were on fire, each day I publish the corona virus total death toll in the US based upon the latest data I can find.  A single death is an immense tragedy if you love the person.  However, we are not talking about love, but rather public policy, which should always involve a sober analysis of risk and cost.  Please recall that in a bad normal flu year our death toll in the US can be as high as 90,000.

Note:  this will be a total death toll since the beginning of this bad farce, and not a daily toll.  As of the beginning of June 9 the claimed, as suspect as that claim is, death toll is 113,055.  May the Perpetual Light shine upon them.  Deaths yesterday were 588 as opposed to 731 last Monday.

It’s over. The new deaths are in a free fall. The CDC reports 4,751 for three weeks ago, 1,975 for two weeks ago and only 299
for last week. See here:

https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/index.htm

Of course these are only the deaths reported to the NCHS, meaning that the media’s death count will be higher (the CDC lists 94,371 deaths total up to last Saturday, while the count reported here is 113,055). But either way the trend is dramatically lowering.

Number of new cases is of course rising in many places, but it’s pretty obvious that this is due to an increase in testing finding cases that were already there. Even that will peter out before long because testing (if it isn’t completely fraudulent) can’t find more cases than what exists, and the death rate shows that we are hitting our maximum.

The media will try to keep the panic going by saying that we are okay now but that cases could explode at any time. But with fires just starting to clear in many cities, most people won’t care.

It’s over until the superspreader events generated by these witless riots begin to make themselves known.

I’d be pleased if the political parties could plan conventions held according to social distancing principles and the president hold off on the rallies for the time being. We need to allow idled people to return to work with protective equipment. We don’t need mass gatherings of people cheering, singing, and spreading virus on eachother.
