Part 3 of our stripped down look at Amoris Laetitia with some commentary by PopeWatch:
61. Marriage is a gift from God.
62. Jesus mandated that marriage be indissoluble as a gift to Man.
63. Jesus restored marriage to its original form.
64. The love that Jesus demonstrated in his earthly ministry is an example to the Church.
65. Jesus becoming a member of a human family changed the world.
66. By emulating the holy family of Nazareth, any family can become a light in the darkness.
67. Cites Gaudium et Spes on the family.
68. Cites Humanae Vitae on conjugal love and procreation.
69. Cites Saint John Paul II on the family.
70. Cites the Pope Emeritus on the family.
71. The Trinity is represented in the family.
72. Marriage is a sacrament and a vocation.
73. Draws an imperfect analogy of Husband and Wife and Christ and His Church.
74. Sexual union of Husband and Wife is the nuptial mystery.
75. The Husband and Wife are the ministers of the sacrament of matrimony.
76. Marriage contains seeds that Husband and Wife through the grace of God can bring to fruition.
77. Blurs the distinction between Christian marriages and other types of marriages.
78. Church encourages the conversion of those who are civilly married only or shacking up.
79. Pastors are not to call a spade a spade when it comes to people shacking up. Why? Complexity! (Here the Pope uses the traditional means by which confessors determined the degree of guilt of a sin, and takes it to use as an excuse not to bluntly telling people engaging in sin that they are sinning.)
80. Conjugal union is ordered to procreation by its very nature.
81. Children are gifts of god born out of the conjugal love of their parents.
82. Having children is the prime purpose of marriage.
83. Pope strongly condemns abortion. (Bravo!)
84. Parents are the principal educators of their children.
85. The Church is called to help parents in their duty to educate their children.
86. Pat on the back to parents who remain loyal to the Gospel.
87. The Church is a family of families.
88. Love within families is a source of strength for the Church.
Chpater Four-Love in Marriage
89. Love is the core of marriage.
90. Quotes Saint Paul on love. (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)
More tomorrow.

In the midst of this all, our Catholic betters tell us how nothing has changed. Let them explain this:
http://www.catholicculture.org/news/headlines/index.cfm?storyid=28046
“Father Antono Spadaro, the Italian Jesuit who was an influential figure in the meetings of the Synod on the Family, now writes that Pope Francis has removed all restrictions on the access of divorced and remarried Catholics to the sacraments.
Father Spadaro’s controversial interpretation of Amoris Laetitia– which appears to contradict the claims that the Pope made no major changes in Church teaching or discipline– appears in Civilta Cattholica, the Jesuit journal that Father Spadaro edits.
Civilta Cattholica is regarded as a semi-authoritative source because its contents are approved in advance by the Vatican Secretariat of State. Father Spadaro has worked closely with Pope Francis as adviser and translator, and reportedly helped to draft the apostolic exhortation.”
Francis hasn’t removed anything because Francis can’t remove restrictions that weren’t his in the first place.
.
Phillip-
Looking at the source of the quote, it is awful light on an actual quote, and even if they actually offered a quote– it’s from an editorial by a guy whose claim to fame is that he started (according to him) the first Catholic attempt at “cybertheology.” (Which, to his credit, was still going as of three years ago when the Berkley center interviewed him. I was poking around to check if this was another one of those “official exorcist of the Vatican” humbugs.)
****
It took some doing– the page for the magazine offers a download of the article in PDF form, which would be great… if I could read Italian…. but I found where SOMEBODY had done a translation:
http://www.cyberteologia.it/2016/04/the-joy-of-love-the-structure-and-meaning-of-pope-francis-post-synodal-apostolic-exhortation/
I can’t find anything like how they interpret the guy to be commenting.
Possibly it’s like the document itself seems to be, just like the last one– it’s not so much what it says, it’s the HUGE FREAKING OBVIOUS ROUTES FOR ABUSE that are highlighted in flashing neon and say “hey, anti-Christians, go here”?
I agree with Ernst Schreiber.
You know who else agree’s with me? Pope Francis. Which is why the Exhortation is written the way it’s written.
Spadaro, Kasper, Cupich, and whoever else wants to, maybe including Francis himself even, can pretend all they want that it isn’t so. But pretence is all they have.
