I have reached the point where I simply have no more words for these bitter, hateful people, and trying to say anything other than praying for their conversion and salvation has become a near occasion of sin for me. I have my theories about where their hatred comes from, which would not surprise any regular readers here. Next month we are either going to get another four-year postponement of the death of the USA as we knew it, or the chastisement will enter its final phase. I see no alternative. I will be happy to be otherwise convinced.
Lord, have mercy.

Lord have mercy, indeed. May God in his infinite mercy continue to shed his grace on these United States of America. We sorely need it.

I know that they say that blarney is flattery laid on so thick that you love it, but calling this a thought is a bit beyond.

I am still breathing fire over the barely repainted “illness is caused by sin” magical thinking from Biden, combined with the witch-burning impulse.
I know it’s human, but good grief!

Illness us caused by sin? Is Biden making a play for the Christian Science vote? I guess he must be. Because Democrats usually condemn people who say such and such is God’s punishment for so and so.

Ernst-
what else do you call “if you get sick it’s because someone didn’t use a mask” when we’ve known since the Spanish Flu that masking orders either do nothing or make things worse, and we’ve known since the 90s that the quilted copies of single-use also do nothing or make things worse because we were trying to find something for Africa?

I heard a PSA yesterday that had to remind people that just because they have a mask on doesn’t mean they can’t catch the kung flu, you still have to wash your hands and not touch your eyes adn disinfect things ou touch constantly.

The mania for masks is definitely magical thinking. Just riffing, perhaps inappropriately, on the way the Left freaks out whenever anyone on the Right suggests divine retribution (chastisement, correction) as a first cause to whatever calamity of the moment ails us. And yet, human nature being what it is, they can’t help but trade in the same types of explanations.

The mask motte-bailey:

The motte: Masks are not there to protect you from getting sick. But they can somewhat reduce airborne transmission from yourself to others and this, in conjunction with other measures like maintaining distance and washing hands, can slow the spread of the disease on the large scale.

The Bailey: If you get sick it’s your fault because you didn’t wear a mask. If you don’t wear a mask, you are going to die.

Whenever there is a debate on mask policy they stick firmly to the motte. Whenever someone they don’t like gets sick, like the president, the bailey gets trotted out shamelessly.
