I have never used one of these to fall asleep. Typically I fall asleep quickly at night, to the envy of my Bride. However, I do enjoy the sound of rainfall and I have been using this as background noise while working at my computers.

Good idea Don. Sounds from nature are the best. I do the same on my lanai in Southern Florida except the sounds of rain and thunder are real—especially real when a hurricane is in the offing.
I use a rain sound effect too, when I need to fall asleep. One of my favorites is “Driving in the Rain” – the sound of the windshield wipers rhythmically beating puts me right under.
I’ve streamed white noise at night, and I’ve also used the sound of a HEPA filter. I haven’t tried the rain sounds yet.
It’s odd; I’ve gone through phases where I needed streaming music while working, and other stretches where it’s a distraction. The kind of music is important. Vocals are always distracting unless it’s classic rock that I’ve heard a thousand times. I think it’s the same psychological effect as whispering: if you turn down instrumental music you don’t listen as closely, but if you turn down the human voice you listen closer.
