Quadratura:Â illusionistic painting in which the painted architectural elements on a wall or ceiling appear to be part of the real architecture of the space.
Painting, at its best, can be a form of prayer to echo down the centuries. Brother Andrea Pozzo, SJ (1642-1709), was a master painter who utilized quadratura and other illusionist painting techniques to deceive the eyes, amaze the minds and illuminate the souls of those who viewed his work. May he even now be painting the Beatific Vision.
Bravissimo painting that lives and inspires. Unfortunately , not the same with the Jesuits who no longer inspire and have lost their way.
Brilliant work.
Please allow my wandering inquiry.
Years ago..over thirty, I lived in Orange County Ca. The Festival of the Arts in Laguna Beach was inspiring..at least the [ live art portion ] where great works of Master artists were revealed from behind a large curtain. The piece would be twenty five feet wide by thirty feet long. It was made up of individuals who allowed themselves to be painted. After 5 minutes of viewing a couple of people would walk away and slowly before your eyes the masterpiece would dissolve.
If you get a chance to witness this extraordinary work you won’t be disappointed.
The inquiry was to be this;
Has anyone on this site been to this festival recently?
I wonder if they still do this exhibit.
Alas, Philip, it was cancelled for 2020 due to the China flu.
