A survey of recent-graduating seniors from Catholic high schools from across the country today revealed some surprising statistics.
According to the survey, only 63% of graduating seniors admitted to being atheists by the end of their senior year of Catholic high school, a 10% reduction from the previous year.
Patsy Jenkins, the principal a local Catholic high school, was not happy about the findings, saying that school officials “look forward to better days” when they could “more easily drive students away from the Catholic faith.”
“For the last couple decades that figure was holding steady around 73%,” Jenkins told EOTT. “I about dropped out of my chair when I learned that that number had plummeted 10%.”
Jenkins went on to say that she believed that the drop in numbers were mainly due in part to the Covid-19 lockdowns.
“This is not our fault. Without the students here under our supervision, it’s been very difficult to drive them away from Catholicism. Even with limited hours online with them, it’s nearly impossible to know what kind of stuff they’re reading. They could be reading the Summa for all we know.”

My college roommate was close childhood friends with a graduate of a very exclusive, doubtless very expensive Jesuit prep school. Through that friend I met many of his classmates, and while I noticed they were a tight-knit group, they were also cheerfully amoral and all utterly contemptuous of the Church. It wasn’t that their faith had been neglected there, it was as if it had been deliberately demolished.
I don’t doubt those guys are sending their own sons to that same Jesuit prep school today. I’m sure it’s still an excellent education and the contacts one makes alone would excuse the price of tuition. But every single graduate I’ve ever met in years since has, to a man, absolutely rejected the Church…

I was very fortunate to attend a Jesuit prep school before the full effect of Vatican II was felt (1968-1972), and the priests still emanated the gravity of the daily pre-Novus Ordo Mass, openly prayed the breviary every day and throughout the day, and practiced twice a day the Jesuit examination of conscience with seriousness.
Ceased attending alumni gatherings because the crowd that came after my era, especially since the Bill Clinton-1990s, is exactly as you described. In fact, a lot like Joe Biden (though unlike the reprehensible ex-VP candidate Tim Kaine, Biden wasn’t Jesuit-educated): The philosophy us clearly “there are no moral laws that cannot be willingly compromised.”
Really, now the Jesuit schools are secular entities. Secular atheist entities. Like our bishops. Like our Pope. Like [fill in the blank ].
One other thought. The straw that broke the camel’s back for me was when a young Jesuit scholastic who had taught at the Jesuit prep school passed away prematurely from AIDS: And instead of a more somber and thoughtful town, the obituary comments at the Facebook site of the Jesuit prep school were brassily laudatory of his secret life and his teaching people to “Question authority.” Huh?
