Bear will never forget a USO show on a ship moored to the pier in Manama, Bahrain toward the end of Desert Storm. God Bless the USA was the monster finale—very moving. Bigger than Three Little Maids From School, which was a welcome diversion to most of the audience.

There is nothing like spending 4th of July in a foreign country. It makes you feel proud of the USA;, blessed to be a US citizen and born into a free country and homesick all at the same time. As a child visiting Heidelberg, Germany I watched the festivities on base with my parents. My dad and his three brothers were WWII vets.
As an adult saw the festivities iat NAS Cubi Pt, NAVSTA Subic Bay. The best was BCC Hong Kong with my then two young boys on a junk ride in the harbor viewing fireworks. A joint Canadian and US Navy Battle Group were in port dressed with flags and at sunset lit up with lights. Awesome.
I attended Mass this morning. Mass concluded with the singing of “America”.
Last weekend was my first Mass since March 15. The Long Lent finally ended.
