I think that the Democrats just lost the Senate election in Alaska, and Mary Peltola better put a good criminal defense attorney on speed dial. If the allegations are true, a charge of election fraud and conspiracy to commit election fraud would probably stick.
Don’t know if it’s precisely illegal. It is a dirty trick. You’ll recall how Democrats exploited features in Alaska’s law on public officers to file a blizzard of frivolous ethics complaints against Gov. Palin, one of which was filed in the name of a character on East Enders. She and her husband had by mid-2009 accumulated a six figure sum of legal bills responding, so she sets up a legal defense fund (for which she receives another ethics complaint). She eventually resigns in order to be able to raise money to pay off her debts without incurring further complaints. (After which she’s slammed in fora like this by stupid Republicans, none of whom were volunteering to pay her bills).

It was perfectly obvious this was a contrived exercise. I hadn’t heard their decoy was a schoolteacher. You want to bet he’s been on the board of the local chapter of NEA Alaska?

It’s a reasonable wager that blabbermouths in the Peltola campaign fed the dirt to a Sulzberger minion thinking it would go no further. It’s a reasonable wager it wouldn’t have gone any further bar that there’s a worse scandal the Sulzbergers wish to conceal with a diversion.
