Really Looking Forward to This Movie
- Donald R. McClarey
Donald R. McClarey
Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 43 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.
Some people take to soldiering as fish take to water. Jimmy Stewart is one hero.
The actor’s portrayal is amazing! Not an impression that comedians do but an honest homage to Stewart.
He was an extraordinary character. I think this country still produces extraordinary characters, but they’re proportionately less common and they’re not appreciated by politicians, our chattering classes, or our taste makers.
Gosh – tell me that photo isn’t a dead ringer for Mr Gower’s drug store in A Wonderful Life!
That’s for posting. We will see the movie. My father was a Army Air Corps meteorologist for the 91st bomb group at RAF Bassingbourn home of the American Eighth Air Force. In 1960 dad took us to Bassingbourn. Memory is the field was inactive then. He mentioned Clark Garble being there. Don’t recall James Stewart being mentioned though my father had great respect for him as a USAF
reserve officer post war. Also as an actor and family man.
Has anyone been to his museum? I first found out about it many years ago. I was interested in taking our Boy Scouts there, but it was just too far for a day trip and it never quite fit in during the summer camping trips.

The photo missed one little detail…the hardware store is in Indiana,….Pennsylvania, between Pittsburgh and Altoona in Indiana County. I wasn’t aware of the museum..I need to check it out.
On a related note…my dad’s parents were neighbors to Perry Como’s aunt. My grandfather knew Perry Como, a little bit.
