The Soviets also helped start WWII. Invaded Poland with Hitler and then Finland before Hitler turned.

The old canard. Would the Soviets eventually win? Probably. But it would have been longer and worse than it was. And this doesn’t include the possibility that, if no Allies, then Japan eventually does what Germany wanted and declares war on the USSR, making it then even worse than that. Remember, it took a few years for the USSR to recoup after the war while the US was taking off. So I believe that, no matter what, over endless years of millions and millions more killed, the USSR could out die Germany and eventually win (and probably the same with Japan). But the shell that would have been left would have been containable by Luxemburg, no NATO needed.

there’s an old saying that “an army operates on its stomach.” in other words — if you have a starving army it’s pretty much useless. The red army was fed by the United States.

Let’s also not forget that the “glorious Soviet Union” jailed it’s own returned POWs because they were obviously traitors for having surrendered.

Another effort, sounds like, to denigrate historic US military achievement.

Anyone who wants to praise Soviet military achievements would do well to examine as well their well documented horrific treatment of civilians, not just German civilians, particularly women, but any Eastern European captured peoples, let alone captured German military.

Reading “Sniper on the Eastern Front: The Memoirs of Sepp Allerberger, Knight’s Cross” by Albrecht Wacker, gave me nightmares for weeks. It contains observed Soviet atrocities by the well-concealed Allerberger that I cannot recount to you on a full stomach.

I have long since come to the conclusion that anyone using “lmao”, “lol”, or “haha” in a post is announcing that they are not a serious adult and are not worth attending to.

Steve Phoenix,
I don’t get it. Why would the punishment of evil people give you nightmares? It is only proper that those who make their beds should sleep in them, right?

We sent a lot of Lend Lease to the Soviet Union both in the European theater and in the Pacific theater. People forget the contribution that the American war factories and farms made to the war effort. There is a series on YouTube about the war factories. America had to balance troop conscription needs with the people needed to keep the factories and farms running to give the troops the military equipment, supplies, and food to be an effective fighting force. In mechanized warfare the military needed to make sure that their forces fighting the battle were backed by their supply lines. The Battle of the Atlantic was a battle for the European theater troops and the logistical supply line from America. Logistics played a major role in the D-Day landings. The U.S. Merchant Marine took heavy per capita losses during the war.

Stalin’s pre-war purges of the Red Army played a part in the Soviet death toll in the war.

“Edgewise” advocates “ the punishment of evil people..It is only proper that those who make their beds should sleep in them, right?”

The 1898 and 1907 Hague Conventions (Soviet Union was not a signatory), the 1929 Geneva Convention (also the post-WW2 1949 Geneva Convention) and l8 US code 2340 (expanded in 1996) prohibit the inflicting of pain, torture and killing of captured or surrendered military and non-combatants.

If “Edgewise” is advocating mimicking of Nazi atrocities as did the Soviet military in WW2, then Edgewise has joined with the ranks of war criminals.
