I am convinced that the overriding priority of Pope Bob is following in the hoof prints of Francis. I would love to see contrary evidence, but thus far all we have is hopes based on the slimmest of foundations, while there is substantial evidence to the contrary from China to Rupnik. Probably Pope Benedict’s greatest regret.
Regardless, the die is cast and the impurities, not all but some, have risen to the top. Now that they are in the light we can gain more of a respect for the scope of the struggles within the Vatican. The Mason’s have vowed to have their representative in the chair. Are we shocked that their plans seem to be gaining traction?
Inch by inch Wormwood creeps along the shadows. An inch for every five or six years.

And if you don’t like living (families raising children in the Faith) under the whim of a Diocesan Bishop who holds pride masses and whispers of ordaining women… go join the ranks of the “excommunicated”. allowing TLM to be would strengthen, ending would cause an exodus – better (in the mind of the Capos & their Don) to suffocate.

Reverence is verboten! However, we are magnanimous and will endeavour to accomodate those pitiable backwardists were they to adequately grovel … for now.
The short-term plan seems to be to toss TLM Catholics a few crumbs to keep them in the fold and foolishly hoping that if they’re quiet and obedient Rome might relent. (Spoiler: Rome has no intention of ending this persecution).
The long-term plan lies in the directives Cardinal Roche issued following Francis’ rescript. Namely, any priest ordained after the promulgation of Traditiones Custodes has to seek permission from his Ordinary in order to celebrate the TLM, and that Bishop, before granting said permission must in turn seek and receive Rome’s approval. The result of that cumbersome process is that any new priest wanting to celebrate the TLM has to put a target on his back with his Ordinary and with Rome, and any Bishop desiring to grant TLM permission will in turn put himself on Rome’s radar as insufficiently on board with the New Springtime of the Synodal Church. In short, as years go by, the pool of priests able to licitly celebrate the TLM will steadily shrink and ultimately disappear. And the TLM Catholics Rome so despises will be starved out.

Which is not to say we should expect a smooth journey, just an exceedingly good destination. It often helps me to remember that we are on a short trip to an eternal destination. If we have lousy travelling companions, bad weather, poor provisions… what does it matter? We are headed for far better things. A far greater tragedy would be a soft journey that we prolong for our own enjoyment at the expense of reaching our destination.
Which is better – a cruise that ends in shipwreck or travelling steerage for awhile to get safely home…
