LeoWatch: Give Peace a Chance

Sometimes he adds in a short, reluctant, comment about a right of self defense, but his commitment to utipian pacifism is clear.  The 19th century utilitarian, John Stuart Mill, is closer to the traditional Catholic teaching about war than our current Pope:

A man who has nothing which he is willing to fight for, nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety, is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. As long as justice and injustice have not terminated their ever-renewing fight for ascendancy in the affairs of mankind, human beings must be willing, when need is, to do battle for the one against the other.

His statement sounds like the Catholic version of the game “Two Truths and a Lie” where the goal is to pick out the lie from three statements given.

Such statements are all too common and are like poorly prepared fish. There is good meat there, but every mouthful must be chewed carefully and laboriously for fear of swallowing a bone.

If America did not make World War II, Hitler’s concentration camps would still be running. The concentration camps were the design for the Gulag Archipelago, Russia’s answer to curb freedom and impose communism.

Pope Leo is definitely keeping the popesplainers in business. Ed Feser is jumping through his southern orfice claiming the pope didn’t say what he clearly said.

At this point, Leo ought to have John Lennon’s Imagine as the processional
Hymn at all papal masses going forward and be done with it!

War is a serious business and should be treated as such. The complete statement by General Sherman on the subject pretty well sums it up.
