Is the bigger picture China and the Panama canal?

Is this the main reason for such a build up of force in the region?
There’s a whole lot of submarine launchable missiles right off the coast of Venezuala. The US Submarine Force has made its one and only warning to Nicolas Maduro. The next time he may get death from below.

And PS, except for Don and any other attorneys here at TAC, I don’t give a damn what lawyers think, particularly Democrat partisan lawyers.
When lawyers run the military, you get the scenario we had in Iraq, where soldiers in the field were often so handcuffed by ivory tower Rules of Engagement that their effectiveness was greatly reduced, and they were exposed to much unnecessary risk.
Fair or not, I’ve always associated lawyers with “no don’t do that,” so it’s not really a surprise.
Somewhere I saw an account of the stages in the life of an enterprise. In stage one, it is prosperous and run by engineers. In stage two, it is declining and run by accountants and finance mavens. The end stage arrives when it is run by lawyers.

LQC,
Thanks for excluding us.
Since a lot of the world doesn’t recognize the authority of the King, who decides if it really is a law? I might because I do recognize the authority of the King and the morality that He taught, but after that it’s just somebody’s opinion as Don points out. In the secular world of “international law” there is no sovereign. And with no sovereign, it’s just an exercise in voluntary compliance. Is that really a law or just a goal? Every time I hear the term international law I want to roll my eyes. And I’ve started to roll my eyes about whether or not something is a violation of law in this country since certain people just consistently ignore them and there’s a whole host of people Who Aid the lawbreakers.
Trump is taking steps to reestablish the Monroe Doctrine. Russian, Chinese and Iranian influence in Venezuela will come to an end.
In neighboring Colombia, the voters will see to it that the reign of Petro will end next year.
Which leaves the 60 plus year festering boil that is Cuba. If that dictatorship is removed from power, Ortega would soon follow and foreign influence in the Western Hemisphere would wane.
Most enlisted 18-to-20-year-olds (and it appears many other more senior members of the military) are not deeply versed on US history, the full history of its military engagements (such as for example, the 2 Barbary Pirate Wars and the military actions ordered by Jefferson and later Madison), the US Constitution and the President’s Art. II, Sec 2 powers, and the history and role of the military serving at the orders of the C-in-C).
For these supposed “seasoned” elected leaders to propose acts of insubordination by a military member based on the latter’s subjective interpretation of “a lawful order” in fact exposes that individual to the full UCMJ treatment: court-martial, potential imprisonment, and a ruined reputation for life. In short, callously using them as a Bowe Bergdahl-style pawn to feed their Trump-Derangement ravenousness.
(Despite Bergdahl’s conviction for desertion subsequently being thrown out under questionable circumstances, he reportedly has been unable to hold a job and has been receiving mental health counseling and medical treatment at a VA hospital near San Antonio, TX.).
That is the likely future of some poor pawn if they take up the Sen. Mark Kelly proposal.
