Elections Have Consequences
- Donald R. McClarey
Donald R. McClarey
Cradle Catholic. Active in the pro-life movement since 1973. Father of three, one in Heaven, and happily married for 43 years. Small town lawyer and amateur historian. Former president of the board of directors of the local crisis pregnancy center for a decade.
The Atlantic ocean has become wider since the civil rights of subjects of the monarchy in the UK have shrunk; no guns, no plea of self defense in a court of law and laws that cater to evil segments of the culture of death.
In the USA all citizens own all the free lands and waterways in joint and common tenancy. In the USA the citizens institute their government. Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness is supported by the divine Providence of God in our Declaration of Independence.
The “Grand Bargain” that is the UK’s existence is going to end sooner than people realize – that is, the idea of simultaneously being citizens of a representative parliamentary government and subjects of a sovereign. Something is going to give, and the worst case is both get dissolved and a government more nefarious is put in place. Then the Big Ugly can truly commence there.
Never has it been clearer that we are “two peoples separated by a common language.” I know it’s not what Wilde (or Shaw?) meant, but with respect to the President, I’m not seeing what the shared values are.
There have been times when the English have allowed their beliefs to be obscured for a time by the current vogue.
The “Protestant Prince” phase of Henry VIII.
The “can’t kill enough Catholics” phase of his daughter.
The “what if we appointed a king instead” debacle that was the Civil War
Usually English common sense, common decency, and uncommon courage right the ship enough to:
Continue the work of Magna Carta.
Keep Europe from becoming entirely French.
Keep Europe from being entirely German.
I hope and pray that England can once again pull its head out of its arse and abandon the current project of treating Orwell as a how-to book!
I have read that Catholicism is on the increase in England.
Sir Keir Starmer, Knight of the Realm, son of a toolmaker (as he keeps reminding everyone). Prime Minister of UK and head of the Labour Party. Hater of Private Education, yet boosted his success through Private School Bursary. Still unsure if he is a socialist or a capitalist. One thing is for certain, and that is that he doesn’t like ambition in others. Only himself. Glad Trump didn’t hold back on his “policies”.
